Christmas craft fail - HELP!

So I am home alone with LO at my in laws. We haven't done any hand/footprints of him so my plan was to do that today. I got all set up with him in his high chair and when I opened the paint it splattered all over their kitchen wall!!! It luckily wiped up no problem and I started with his feet - messy but ok. But somehow he grabbed his foot and got his hand covered in paint and started touching everything. I wiped up the mess pretty well and tried to do his handprints - no luck at all. So I scrapped the idea and went to wash him up. The whole thing about baby wipes working is a lie! He still had lots of blue paint all over him. I was expecting this. I put him in the kitchen sink and tried to scrub him with Palmolive. We are both totally green at this point. I take him upstairs and drip blue green suds all through their house because I had no towel ready and throw him in the tub. I scrub him with baby soap and while the water is no longer running green, he is still stained all over. He started spitting up blue suds at this point too. We are both exhausted, the craft is a mess, and we are both stained. Anyone have any other suggestions about how to get the paint off so no one knows what a disaster we were? Everyone will arrive home in 24h!!! All I can do is laugh.

  • We had that issue too! Doesn't stain my butt. I used rubbing alcohol (E doesn't have sensitive skin at all) and that got the worst off. Then the rest faded in a day or two. GL with the mess, that's the worst!

  • Hmm good idea @TJ1979. I'll have a look in the cupboards and see if I can scare some up.
  • I remember hearing that tide will take Koolaid out of hair (many of my friends in jr high attempted some wretched dye jobs). Sorry about your failed craft :( MIL brought a handprint in clay thing. No idea if it will work, but somehow is seems less messy.

I do have some tide here. I will try that at bathtime tonight!
  • Aw man that sucks. When we used paint it washed right off, so I have no suggestions. Sorry.

  • Good news is he's looking a little less green today. Just his toes are bad now. I may have to try to keep socks on him until things fade just to keep the project a surprise for Christmas! I now think I will print off the pic I took when things are at their messiest and frame it with the footprints for people. That way I can get rid of the handprint mess too.
  • I never tried! Would of been great if you got pics! Sounds like a hot mess :)

  • LoL.  Reading this made me think of the time I was trying to make feet hearts with both of my kids for Valentine's Day and my daughter ended up running all around our downstairs leaving red tracks all over our kitchen floor, living room carpeting, etc. and my son eventually was covered in paint from head to toe as well.  Then the bathroom was a mess after I brought them in to clean them up and eventually we had to do the bath thing too.  HA.  Ridiculous.  I actually attached two pictures I snapped with my phone when we had our very own Pinterest fail because what else do you even do besides laugh when something like that is going on?!

Anyway, the paint I use is always real easy to get off/washable but I know we did a little tie dye project over the summer at one of my daughter's art classes and that stuff did not come off of our skin for like TWO WEEKS.  I tried rubbing alcohol, soaking in dish soap, scrubbing, etc and it didn't really even matter.  Eventually it just faded away.
