We have an oversized chair in a spare room that could be easily go into a nursery. It'd be nice to use this instead of buying a rocker/glider but my mom insist you need a rocker for soothing the baby. Does it really make that big of a difference? I'd rather spend that money on something different. Any parents out there regret not buying a rocker/glider?

I bought a glider with a gliding footrest 4 years ago for DD. We use it every night still to this day to read bedtime stories. For us it was a great purchase and probably the only baby thing I still use regularly. I do agree that a lot of our time was spent in the recliner downstairs but it was nice to have a place to sit and rock since the bedroom was upstairs.
I would say if your bedrooms and living space is on a separate floor some type of seating is necessary.
This time around, I wanted a rocker/recliner, so we bought one, but we're also planning to bring the ottoman from DS #1's room into the new nursery for DS #2 (luckily, it's chocolate leather, so it goes with a variety of decor). I'm not sure if I'll like the rocker/glider as much as I anticipate, but I thought it would be more comfortable for me (I remember spending hours in that nursery chair) and that the baby might like to be rocked.
