Is This Reasonable?

We're currently paying $125 a week for DS to go to daycare full time. (Full time being 7-5 on Monday-Friday). We also pay regardless of Holidays, vacation, ect. Is this standard? It's an in-home childcare, I love the provider and so does DS- I was just curious on what others were paying.

Daycare costs vary almost as much as housing costs across different areas. What you are paying would be insanely low for my HCOL area.

Ok, Iive in a smaller city in VA (Hampton). $125 is the standard for the entire week regardless of any holidays which is why we pay for Holidays too. Thanks ladies!

Compared to what I pay, it's great

The infant rate at our daycare is $260 a week and the preschool rate is $200. We get a two kid discount and pay $391 a week, which is still low compared to some. We also pay 52 weeks a year. Their expenses are fixed so I expect our charges to be as well.

It varies so much by where you live.. In my HCOL area, that's about 30% of what we pay.

I think it's really hard to compare across different geographies. DD goes to toddler care at a center in Cambridge, MA. We pay over $2k/month, and do not receive discounts for sick days or vacation. Other centers in the Boston/Cambridge area are of similar cost. So $125/week sounds like a dream.

We pay $240/week (7:30am-5:30pm) but we are in a HCOL area. This rate is pretty comparable to most in-homes where we live.

ETA - and we pay for holidays and up to three weeks of vacation for the provider although she's only ever taken two.

The rate will vary by area, but it's pretty standard to pay for all weeks, regardless of how many days of care you actually use.

wowzer! I don't know the cost of in home care in this area, but private you are looking at $2000 + a month! I'm in Northern VA.

Wow-- that's a fantastic rate.

DD goes to an in home daycare and we pay 120 for two days. Full time is 300.00 per week.

Yes, we also pay for holdays and my DCP's 2 week summer vacation.

I live in a small town in SW Michigan and pay $150/week for my 7 month old to go to a center. The rate drops as she gets older and I'm also stuck paying holidays, etc. I do get a free week at some point during the year. Just depends on when I want to take it. I also furnish all her diapers/wipes/food.

That is so cheap and I play considerably less then centers in my area. I pay $132 for 3 days a week for my 4 year old.

Very normal to pay for time regardless if your child is in attendance: sick days, holidays, vacation,etc... $125 is extremely reasonable. I paid 2.5x (per child) the amount in MCOL area.

I live in VA too, in a MUCH smaller town than Hampton and pay $200/week... you got a steal I'd say.

$160 a week full-time in NC. I think your rate is standard. We also pay no matter what, and get one vacation week free per year.

I pay $130 a week for our center, and we pay for every week, regardless of holidays, vacations, etc. This is VERY reasonable for the city I live in. It is, however subsidized by the government, as she goes to the CDC on the military base.

We pay $150/week M-F, including holidays and training days. What I like about our center (monetarily) is vacation rates. If we notify them that we will be gone for a week, we only pay half the rate for that week, and we can do that for as many weeks as we want. It's pretty great.

Depends on your geographic location. My friend's son attends a home daycare that's $1000 a month, so about $250 a week. So what you pay sounds obscenely low to me.

In homes in my VCOL are about 380 a week for one kid. I am jealous.

That is pretty low for where I'm at...and its the same we pay regardless of whether he attends or if there's a holiday. Most places account for that time over the year. Its like paying an employee vacation and sick time. Something I'm sure you enjoy as a perk as an employee as well. If you were slow at work I'm sure you'd still expect to be paid for the time you were present as well.

$155/wk and we still pay for holidays and closed days but we get 10 days of "vacation time" each calender year which as long as we schedule it in advance we don't have to pay those weeks.

I'm Air Force, so I don't know about the sick time and all that and that's why I was asking. Thank you.
