Genevieve

My name is Jennifer- would it be tacky to name this little one Genevieve?  I'd like to call her Genevieve or Eve, but not sure my DH likes Eve...I'm sure people would call her Gen though....TIA!

Re: Genevieve

  • Yes, everyone calls me Jen.  If we were to call her Genevieve, I think people would just call her Gen regardless.  My some is Colin and I hear people calling him "Col" all the time (and I hate it!)

  • Love it-- It's my best friend's DD's name.  They call her Evie (Eh-vee) for short.

I don't think it's weird at all (with your name being Jennifer).

  • I love Genevieve! Like PP said, there are a lot of other NN options, and people are less likely to shorten it to Gen if you go by Jen. It's not really fair to compare it to Colin, which doesn't have a NN option, and can only really be shortened to the first syllable if it's going to be shortened, anyway.

  • My dd is genevieve so I obviously love the name. Her only nickname derived from her actual name is G. I do call her Gen occasionally but no one else ever does!
  • I don't think it would be tacky to use it, but I do think it's too close to your name.

  • Genevieve is such a pretty name and I think if you have a lot of nn options you can kind of pick and choose. I really like Vivi.

  • This is my name. I've always went by Genna. Although my DH does call me Evie sometimes.

There are a lot of nickname options but I personally wouldn't use a name so close to your name.

  • I haven't commented on anything in forever but I had to comment on this because our daughter's name is Genevieve. We call her Evie, she's almost 3 and no one has ever called her Gen. We get so many compliments on her name- a beautiful choice!
  • I dont think that it's a problem at all.

  • I know a few Genevieves and they go by Gen so I would nix it. Lovely name though.
