Changing Pad/Liners

I'm looking at my new contoured changing pad from Babies R Us...it looks plastic and waterproof, although it doesn't officially state it on the package. I also have this package of changing pad liners that are 100% cotton but supposedly ARE waterproof. Do I need to use both?? Do the liners actually help or does it just make more things to clean? Does the changing pad even need an extra waterproof lining? Help me out here, moms.

Re: Changing Pad/Liners

  • I agree the liner is not necessary, but it does make clean up a lot easier!  The liners are also nice to use around the house if you are changing you LO somewhere other then the changing pad.

  • I have the same changing pad, with a backup cover directly on it, a lap pad/liner thing, then the cute cover on top.  That way if there is an immediate need for cleaning i just have to pull off a layer, and it's easier to throw the cover and/or pad in the wash then to clean the actual changing pad.

  • Maybe it's just my LO but she gets poop everywhere! I have the changing pad cover and then use a cloth diaper laid flat ontop of that. Then if she squirts during a change I can just replace the cloth diaper instead of the whole cover.

  • My LO likes to pee as soon as the diaper comes off...we use disposable liners, like puppy pads, and toss them when they get soiled. Easy peasy until she gets through the first few months

  • We use the liner on top of the cute cover and don't know what we'd do without them! I guess we have a messy girl but I go through at least one a day usually

  • We have the fuzzy cover and use terry cloth liners from BRU. Makes messed so much more manageable!

    We do this too.

  • I have a fuzzy cover on our changing pad that matches the rest of the nursery and covers up the pad (and protects the wood on the dresser from the underneath of the pad).  I have the liner over top the cover so that if there are any messes, I don't have to take off the whole cover but just replace the liner.

None of it is necessary but it makes clean up easier and I think a little more comfortable for DS.  He isn't laying on cold plastic.

This is what we do. Although the plastic is waterproof it can get cold.

  • We have several waterproof cloths laid on top of the changing pad, and I put a cloth diaper on top as well.  That way it's easy to just remove the wet/poopy layer one-handed, and have another ready to go.

  • I just use a receiving blanket on top of mine. We have a ton of them and DD usually poops/pees at least one a day while I am changing her so I just keep changing them. I did buy changing pad covers but I feel like they are too cumbersome to put on the changing pad, I found blanket was way easier/faster to just throw on there
