Registering- What are the best options?

I am starting to think about building a baby registry- 17 weeks today and my baby shower has been set for February. Where are folks registering? Any advice on what websites/stores to use? Has anybody had a really bad experience somewhere?

  • I'm only registering at Target, but I am somehow going to mention that we would love gift cards to BRU and Buy Buy Baby.
  • I registered at BBB and Amazon with DD. I am not sure if Target has changed their registry policies since I got married (let's hope so), but I remember people HATED registering with them at the time.

  • This was mentioned in a previous post but Babies R Us is having a special right now.  You can earn 10% of purchases made from your registry on a gift card if you sign up by Nov 15.  Here is a link to their site about the deal https://www.toysrus.com/shop/index.jsp?categoryId=21943286&ab=Bru_homepage_aspot:4:The-Sweetest-Registry-Deal-Ever-W
  • I am a FTM and am going to register at Babies r us and Target. I would LOVE to register at Buy Buy Baby instead of BRU but the closest one to me is 2 1/2 hours... boo.

@AcaAwkward, why did/do people hate registering @ Target? We did (a little) one there for our wedding. For the baby, we did Target, BRU, & Amazon.

Back then, it was because of their return policy on duplicate registry items (which, apparently, happened a lot bc their registry didn't update very quickly) -- you could only exchange an item for another item in that same department (so you couldn't exchange sheets for a blender, for example). Again, this might all be different now!

I have had some issues with returns there in general though - they almost always want to give me store credit, even though I have a receipt, instead of putting the $ back on my card (like every other store in the world). Not a huge deal as the credit always gets used, but obnoxious nonetheless.

  • I'm a 4TM, but since my youngest is 5.5, my family is throwing a shower, I should feel guilty, but we got rid of everything 3 years ago when we decided we were done having kids, so we have nothing. I'm going to register at BRU, but it's more for me so I can remember things I want/still need to purchase.

  • In doing BRU and Amazon since I have some online shoppers in the family. I might also consider Target just for the swag bag and not tell anyone. Is that bad?
  • I'm doing BRU and Amazon, and probably PBK.

  • I'm doing Target, Buy buy Baby and Amazon (although this is for things I can't find in the stores). I'm having two showers and one I know is in Feb so I'll register at least by the first week of January.

  • Do any of you amazon lovers know if Amazon does completion coupons? I am hugely obsessed with amazon, but never knew they did registries.

Never been to a Buy Buy Baby. Is it much different from BRU?

It's bed bath and beyonds version of a baby store. It's pricier, but has a huggggeee selection.
  • Babies r us, buy buy baby, and target. At least those three. Lots of coupons!

  • Another reason why Target is a tough place to register: because of their high product turnover. I spent four hours registering there (among other places) for my wedding. Within three weeks almost everything we wanted was out of stock or in clearance. So I had to keep updating the registry every couple of weeks with new items. I had to babysit the darn thing, and by the end it took way more time than it was worth. My mom works for target, and says product turnover is always a big problem for them. She says it's the same with baby things. There are some things that stay as staple items, but almost everything is seasonal, and doesn't last more than a month in the store. So for me, I will not be registering at target. I value my time too much to have to keep going back and checking the darn registry.

If you ask me what I came to do in this world, I, an artist, I will answer you:
I am here to live out loud!
  • I registered at BRU only.  I wanted a place that had a brick and mortar store as well as an online presence.  Since most of my family does not do any online shopping making an Amazon registry didn't make sense.  Most of my friends prefer online so it works for them too.

I also wanted a registry that was in both the USA and Canada since I have family and friends in both countries.
  • I am doing babies r us and pottery barn kids. And possibly target
  • We're doing Amazon. My extended family all live in Ohio and Arizona and DH's extended family all live in Canada, so easy to ship made more sense! Oh, and I heart Amazon lol.
  • Hm. I haven't had a problem with Target returns before, they put the $ back on my card if I brought my receipt. For our wedding they put the $ on a gift card. Maybe it is regional.

As far as babysitting my registry, I do that now for fun anyways. Not to see if something was purchased, just to window shop/daydream...
  • Right now I have BRU and Target.  We did target for our wedding with no problems but I have heard of people having problems with returns from baby registries.  Has anyone done babylist?  you can put things on from any website including etsy, amazon, BRU, target, PB or any other random website.  I guess the downside is you don't get discounts and goodie bags....just wondering if anyone has tried it.

Yeah it may be regional with Target, I have never had a problem with returns. Sometimes had no receipt and still got my money back.

I am registering at target and BRU. Buy buy baby has a lot of stuff but I feel really overwhelmed when I walk in there and I feel like stuff is not that easy to find because just like bed bath and beyond, product is stacked from the floor to the ceiling :-S
  • Target, babies r us and amazon. No shower that i know of, it's our third even though my youngest will be 6 when this one is born. Doubting anyone throws one though, so I plan to buy myself for the whatever % back some are doing.

  • Last time I did babies r us and amazon. Honestly I got very little off of my registry. One shower was a second hand shower, so we encouraged people to bring gently used baby items and hand me downs, and another was at my church and all the church ladies pretty much bought clothes. Who can blame them!

  • Bru, target and amazon. However mine are just for me, and any family that asks what I want for my bday/Christmas
  • @spano41 I haven't tried babylist but am considering. We did a similar concept for our wedding last year and while I only added a dozen or so items (thinking no one would use it) it actually was aesome in the end. It was a single website to give everyone, those who wanted to go the stores could and those who wanted to order online did. We got all of the items off of random websites that we asked for!
  • BRU for pretty much everything & Pottery Barn Kids for bedding, blankets and a few other things.
  • We're planning on Amazon and Target. I also signed up with BRU mainly for the 10% rebate in case we decide to go with some big ticket items there like the stroller, car seat and furniture.

BRU & Target- I agree with pps about the Target problems though. I only registered for basic stuff there because of the high turnover & seasonal stuff, the person at the store warned me of that also. I plan to revisit that one when the date is closer.

I registered at BBB, BRU, and Amazon.com. My hubby and I are flying home for our baby shower so we thought Amazon would be a good option for shipping purposes.

Don't forget to look into the universal registry option if you decide to register at Amazon.
