this morning i ended up getting a steroid shot in my foot due to some lingering issues that i have from pregnancy. the foot dr assured me that he's never had any issues giving the shot to breastfeeding women, but wanted me to confirm with my ob before giving me the shot. after waiting an hour, my ob finally returned my call and would not tell me one way or the other - she said that they do not have conclusive evidence that it's ok. super not helpful. my foot has really been bothering me, making me nervous to carry LO up and down the stairs because of the sharp pain that i've been getting, so i decided to go ahead and get the shot, since the foot dr said that he's never heard of any issues with breastfeeding. we did decide to do a half dosage since i was nervous about it, if that matters.
after leaving the foot dr, i called the pedi office. they said at first that i was fine to breastfeed. they just called me back later though and said that they would prefer if i wait 12 hours before nursing (so pump and dump the rest of the day basically). although that sucks, and i would have rescheduled my appointment to be later in the day had i known i would need to pump and dump, i obviously want to do what's best for the baby.
has anyone else had this issue? do you think 12 hours is enough time? in reality, since he sleeps through the night, if i dump the rest of the day he won't be nursing again until tomorrow morning, which will be 21 hours from when i got the shot. he's 4.5 months old.
and of course, i just pumped and got 2 more oz than normal, go figure... ![]()
