Bedtime routine is now a nightmare

My 8 month old son throws a full on tantrum before bedtime when we change his diaper and put him in his Jammie's.. Distractions used to work but now it takes both me and my husband to get him in his Jammie's and diaper.. He twists and rolls and screams it's so frustrating. He goes to bed so easily at night so that's not an issue. Anyone else have this problem? How do I deal with it when distractions don't work.

  • Do as much as you can with them standing up.  If your husband is helping have one of you hold him up on his feet the other dress him...do this for diaper too if you can.

  • we have the same problem.  what i've found helps lately is giving him something to chew on like his teething toy while i change his diaper and put him in his PJs.  that way he is too distracted to squirm around!

  • Would a different location help? It seems to help my daughter as well as acting like it's no big deal. If we get all ready and make a fuss about it, she escalates. I sometimes bring the diaper and pjs to where my husband is playing with her and just sort of integrate it into the playtime.
  • Same here!  Sometimes a toy or binky will distract her, and we try to put jammies on with her standing or sitting or however possible, but there are always tears involved.  It's the same routine every night, so I don't know why she gets upset about it, I guess she's just anxious to move on to story time and nursing, who knows.

  • YES! No problem with bedtime except the diaper change and Jammie's!! He goes down great, just that part. We haven't figured out a trick except we've done away with any PJs that snap up both legs.
this. Two nights ago I decided that we are done with PJs that have snaps. Any new PJs I buy will be the two piece tops-and-bottoms kind with no snaps or buttons.
