Perks you wish they would give to pregnant women...

My experience traveling for work last week has left me with a list of perks I wish pregnant women could or would get. Here's a couple that are high on my list:

- Your OB automatically blesses you with a handicapped parking tag at 24 weeks, so you don't have to waddle your way to the store from really far away.

-or- everybody has "expectant mother parking".

- Airlines would let you board early along with families traveling with small children.

Any "perks" you wish you could have, especially now that we've all entered third tri?

Re: Perks you wish they would give to pregnant women...

  • All I wanted to say was handicapped parking!!! Ughhh that's my biggest wish!
  • Loading the player...
  • If you eat out at a resturaunt they give you a free meal for next visit.
  • I just want more maternity leave .... PAID maternity leave

Seriously, that is all I'd want.

  • Paid leave to cover 3 weeks before to 12 weeks after (total of 15 weeks).

Although, I can't complain too bad...the month before I'm due will be our busiest, and I think my boss is going to let me work from home most of it :D

  • 1. Unless she has dietary restrictions, every pregnant woman should automatically just be given dessert after dinner. I want ALL the cake!! 2. Once you reach third tri, you should be able to work from home or not be on your feet all day. This would save a TON of aggravation for me and my sleepy self. 3. Adding to that, all pregnant women shouldn't have to go into work until 10am and still leave at 5pm and be salaried. I'm not sleeping. This would be life changing.
Mine was going to be along these lines - flexibility with start time at work so if I have a crappy sleep I can get an extra hour or two in the morning
  • A mute button for people who say stupid shit.

DH should stop disregarding everything I say with, "I'm sure that's normal."

Oh you are? I'm so glad! Did you go to medical school earlier today or give birth? No? Please don't talk.

Sorry if that's more of a vent. I do think someone should come wax our eyebrows because I'm so short I have to stand on my toes and lean over the counter to pluck them and that isn't working very well either.

January Siggy Challenge: When I am done breastfeeding...

  • 100% agree on every store having expectant moms parking or the handicapped pass!! I'm tired of waddling down the parking lot, especially now with holiday shoppers out!

It would also be awesome to be able to take the motorized carts around the store.

Airplanes should offer you all the peanuts and pretzels, not just one pack. Also pre-boarding so you can get a seat near the bathroom. I was on a cross-country ten hour flight (with stops) around 17 weeks and the bitchy flight attendant made a big deal about me getting off quickly to get something real to eat. I don't think I ever wished more to be showing a lot than I did in that moment.

And more people showing consideration in a bathroom line, restaurant waiting list, or any line really.
  • Naps. Morning and afternoon.

Mandatory siesta every day, even if you are home with your kids. If you are a SAHM a daily babysitter would be provided for siesta time to make sure all pregnant women are actively participating.

ETA: I should also have included that coverage would be provided so that all the working moms-to-be could participate in siesta time.

I totally agree we should get handicapped parking, also, I think prenatal massages should be covered by insurance/be part of each standard appointment. I also think we should get a special checkout line at the store ;)
    This!! This would be amazing!!

I also think we should get special leave for when Nesting acts up. I am sitting at my desk bored out of my mind because there is no work to do and I really really want to go home and work on my house/nursery!!!

Love it!  Oh and you can take it as the mood strikes (you do not have to take a consecutive week)

  • Airlines would give you free upgrades with more legroom!  My flight to SF and NC was VERY uncomfortable.  I was in the last row with little room and my seat wouldn't decline.  Our plane was broken so we had to deplane and get back on a different one, same seats.  It was awesome...

  • I would love a discount on pedicures and house cleaning!

  • A public bathroom with no lines for expectant moms!  It never fails, as soon as I walk into a busy store I have to go pee, and there's always a huge line!

  • Definitely more paid leave, that's the winner.  I would also love for people to be be a bit more considerate.   Don't push the pregnant lady, or ask the pregnant lady to walk faster, how about giving up seats on public transportation for the lady carrying a child?  And I'm talking about common courtesy, not chivalry.  More often than not, the guilty parties are young dudes staring at their cell phones or pretending they are oblivious while listening to their iPods.  I've seen pregnant ladies give up their seats to the elderly or disabled instead of those punks moving a muscle.  Seriously pisses me off something awful.

This! I had a "minor" meltdown about these people who are "just trying to help" last night. DH was understanding, but he did say I couldn't punch people in the mouth. WTF?!?!?!?!
  • Maternity leave. Yes. That is the winner.

Omg, I'm so used to getting screwed for this in the U.S., it didn't even occur to me as an option!  Yes, this!!!!!!!

  • Overall, I agree with post of the previous posts. Well thought out, ladies!

    My top three are:

    1) More paid maternity leave.

    2) Free ice cream (specifically, DQ Pumpkin Pie Blizzards!)

    3) "Fast-Pass" to the front of the line for anything (i.e. grocery shopping, waiting to use the restroom, etc)

This!!! When we were young my mom would always let pregnant ladies go ahead of us in line, so I assumed every person would be that nice....as I have found out that is not the case.

  • I'd like paid maternity leave. I'll even take as much as six weeks. Super stressful knowing I won't get paid at all for the time I'm gone.
  • I wish we had Expecting Moms Eat Free on Fridays at ihop instead of kids..

  • Paid maternity leave! It would make my life %100 less stressful. I also second naptime ;)

  • All great ones so far!

The one I'm wishing for is a FREE, on-call, massage therapist, chiropractor, acupuncturist, pregnancy and L&D expert, and counselor (can be different people though) that will come to the house as needed.

  • More paid maternity would be awesome!  With my pre-existing disability I already have the handicap parking, don't know what I would be doing without it.

As for pregnancy preboarding- you all can go when they call passengers that need more time getting down the runway- and if they don't say this explicitly, go when they board families (I find some say one or the other, not both).  I've always used this line and look completely "normal" walking.  If my pre-pregnant self never got questioned, our waddling pregnancy selves will definitely get the okay.  So go for it, its for anyone who needs more time (or a seat closer to the bathroom!)

  • A blinking sign on my car so that everyone knows I'm pregnant. I get so much more upset when people cut me off, ride my tail, and/or don't get out of my way (partly because my back hurts VERY badly in the car). And then maybe the car in front of me wouldn't take the last good parking spot leaving the very pregnant woman to hike back to my apartment after working 10-12 hours. Repeatedly.

    Ridiculous, I know.
