Tylenol for a cold?

Is it safe to give a 14 month old Tylenol for a cold?  How is it supposed to help?  I thought it was dangerous to give it when someone has a cold, but maybe I'm thinking of a different medicine.  Thanks.

Re: Tylenol for a cold?

  • It's not dangerous but it's not helpful either for a cold.  It decreases pain and fever but won't help for other cold symptoms.

  • Yes, it won't do anything for the virus but it is safe to help with the stuffy nose, headache, pain, fever, etc that comes from a cold. I only use the baby kind so that I don't give LO too high of a dose.

  • Ditto what pp said. And I think you are thinking about aspirin. That's the one you shouldn't give to a child with fever.

  • Thank you for everyone's help!
  • If I have a cold, I usually have a sore throat and give tylenol to myself. Seems to make sense to do that for a baby if they have a cold. :)
