Circumcision

Ok, for STM's or FTM's that have just had their babies-did you find that you should bring anything extra with you to the hospital if you had your baby boy circumcised? I have Vaseline, but didn't know if there was anything you found helpful! Thanks :)

Re: Circumcision

  • Do you know the method they use? Both of my sons had the plasti-bell and it doesn't require Vaseline or anything special.

I have no idea! To be totally honest I didn't know there were different methods. :-/
  • All they did in the hospital was show us how to take care of it once they circumcized him. They gave us some Vaseline and gauze, and told us to change the gauze with every diaper change for a week. I do not know anything about different methods.

  • My OB did the circumcision. I would call your OB or the hospital and ask. I don't know but it might be different for each hospital.

The plasti bell is like a little ring of plastic that falls off 7-10 days. No blood.

  • I was told to put Vaseline on it (no gauze). The hospital nurses were great and gave us 3 tubes of it :)

I wish my OB did that method, it seems like it would be much easier to take care of!

I'm curious. Why didn't you need to use gauze? They told us to use it because it keeps the area covered better from poop and such and it will stay cleaner.

It's super easy to take care of. You can't wash it or touch it for 24 (or maybe it was 48?) hours but then it just falls off on it's own.

  • My hospital gave us little packets of A&D ointment and said put it on the diaper, not directly on the penis.

I'm not sure, I asked them and they said it wasnt necessary. The gauze that the doc put on it originally fell of earlier than they thought it would (a couple of hours later) I don't know if that had anything to do with it.

  • We were told to use an antibiotic ointment like Neosporin for the first week and then just vasaline until it looks nice and healed, no gauze
