PCOS Questions

Hello Everyone,

In a couple of weeks I will be going to the Obgyn to have my first yearly in 10 years. I know I shouldn't have waited so long. I moved states and had no insurance for a while and then really didn't think about it. Anyway, I know it's bad. I was diagnosed with PCOS at 15 and was put on the pill for 13 years. It took my Dh and I 9 years to get the bfp that I just lost. I am now going to discuss my options for treatment while ttc. I am really unsure of what questions I should be asking, what tests I should look into. I want to make sure my dr is the right dr for me. I would like to see an RE but my current insurance does not cover them (hopefully when the coverage changes in March). I don't have another 9 years.

I am going to ask about metformin. I am hoping it can help with my hormones. If anyone has some advice I would appreciate it greatly.

Thank you,

Re: PCOS Questions

  • Hi I am sorry for your loss and sorry you are struggling with pcos. It is a beast. Since pcos can be either insulin resistant or non-insulin resistant you will want to ask about doing a fasting glucose test. Metformin works best for the insulin resistant pcos but I have heard of some non IR ladies put on it to regulate cycles. Just be warned that it can really mess up your digestive system for awhile while your body adjusts to it. It took me several months to be able to tolerate the full dose. Hth

I hope you get answers You are looking for. Keep us posted. ((( hugs )))

  • Hi I was diagnosed with PCOS in November and was placed on metformin, didn;t really care for the drug. I started using Vitex tincture in Aug and I have (for the first time ever) had non medicated cycles in which I ovulated - as indicated by temp shift. Not everyone has had succes on Vitex but I take 40 drops aday in a pint of water.

What I have read the best thing for pcos is exercise and eating healthy - limited carbs & sugar (all though it makes us crave those things) rember you can get pregnant and have a heathy baby with pcos!! If your Doc is negative nelly then that is not the Doc for you. Oh and people have even gotten pregnany naturally with pcos, just not me - yet ;)

    Best of luck to you!

Thanks for your information. I will ask about vitex also. I have more androgens than I should and need to deal with this issue. I did get pregnant naturally I was unable to maintain it sadly. Good luck to you and sometimes things happen when you least expect it.
