XP: If you bought your kids a play kitchen

If you got your kids a play kitchen - are you happy with that purchase? Do you regret it? Do they still play with it? Is there just food laying all over? Do you wish you'd have bought a bigger/small version?

Re: XP: If you bought your kids a play kitchen

  • My kids have had a kitchen for a few years now. It has been played with a lot, especially the food, cart, and accessories! I am happy with it. We ended up getting it all as a present and hand me downs from friends and family so it cost us nothing which always makes it nicer. My only complaint is that the kids got a ton of food and accessories for their kitchen so it ends up all over the house. I ended up getting a three drawer storage bin for it all and that has helped a lot with the mess. I also store it all away every so often so I get a break from the mess. I am happy with the size (it is one of the smaller ones - Dora's talking kitchen. It is small enough that it doesn't take up too much room and can be stored when mommy wants a break from it. A little bigger would have probably been nicer for two kids but then it would have taken up more space.

  • My girls got a kitchen for Christmas last year and it is played with almost daily. They LOVE it. They do have tons of accessories/food for it and that gets a little nuts, but the kitchen we have has tons of storage space so it can all get put away when they are done. I may also get a little cabinet to put next to it, so they have a little kitchen cupboard.

We have a slightly larger one - the Step 2 Creative Cooks kitchen - and while it takes up a decent chunk of wall space I am glad we didn't go smaller. It's a great size for both of the girls to play in it at the same time.

  • We bought DD a Kidkraft retro kitchen when she was 1. She played with it a ton, and now DS loves it. She does more imaginary play where he just throws everything out and chews on it. I do have a lot of picking up to do when he's done, but it's pretty much just throwing the stuff back into the fridge and oven spaces. I would definitely buy it again. DH has had to fix one of the screws on the oven door, but it has held up very well for as much use as it has received.

  • DS got one the Xmas before he turned 2 in March. He is now 4.5 and still plays with it. We have a ton of Melissa and Doug food which we've acquired over the years so I've gotten rid of most of the plastic food he initially got. I would recommend a pots and pan set to cook in as well. We have the little tikes one with the grill so he uses it all. I also ended up getting another bin that fits on the counter portion which holds a lot of the food.

  • DD's kitchen set is 4 yrs old and she still plays with it. Not as often at this age but definitely when friends come over. The height of the toy was age 2-3 yo in our household.

  • DD loves her kitchen.  Her favorite games are restaurant and shopping.  Ours was a hand me down but I'm so glad we have it.
