We'll use the moby for the beginning and ergo later on. From what I've heard the ergo isn't great until like 3-5 months (unless you get the infant insert I think) and the Moby isn't great after a certain amount of time because it stretches out and doesn't support the weight like an ergo does.

Personally, I think the Moby works better for when the baby is smaller and lighter and the Ergo works better for when the baby is a bit older and heavier. If I had to chose one over the other, I would pick the Ergo because I feel I would get the most use out of it and it is more versatile.

If I only bought the Ergo do you think it would be fine with the infant insert?
Its like the ergo in that it has the correct design which keeps the baby in the right position. You don't need an infant insert though. You just change a few snaps and it works for a newborn. It also comes with foot straps for when the child is older so their feet don't dangle. Has a hood to make feeding discreet and a cool feature on the strap that will prevent your diaper bag/purse from sliding off your shoulder while wearing the carrier. I know it wasn't one of the options in your question, but I feel like I have to tell everyone how awesome it is when they ask me which baby carrier we went with lol.
Also, you might want to try and check out second hand stores, craiglist, or local FB mom's group. I was able to snag my Moby for $5 and it was in great condition. Because it is basically a large piece of piece of fabric, it holds up really well and is easy to wash!
I got a Moby wrap at my baby shower that I registered for, and I thought it was going to be awesome, but (and this is just me) I didn't have a lot of patience for figuring it out. I wore it maybe a couple of times around the house and DS wailed. I could never get it just right, and I didn't have the patience to keep trying.
The Ergo, though, has been awesome. DH has mostly been using it with DS (since I'm pregnant and all), and DH loves it. It's easy on your back, it's convenient when you don't want to take a stroller somewhere, and we can't wait to use it with DD.

ditto to PPs who said both. Ergo is great for when they are bigger but I loved my Moby for those first few months. Once they get too heavy though it is not as good.
for the newborn stage for doing stuff around the house and stuff. No experience with either so we will see. The ergo was highly recommended to me though.

Looks like I might be the only one that feels this way, but I never got on board with Moby and used the Ergo with infant insert from the get go.
Might be because I had a summer baby, but I sweat my ASS off all wrapped up in the Moby when we would be out for walks. While the Ergo got warm, it was nowhere near as uncomfortable. Since it's winter might not be a consideration, but I tend to run hot generally so I'll likely stick to the Ergo this time as well.

Good luck!
Yes, I think that would work best.
