3rd Trimester

Breech baby at 26 weeks but turned?

Hi Ladies!

I'm a STM and not quite in my third trimester yet but thought you'd have the best answers to this. This time around, at 26 weeks, I was told after a U/S that my baby is currently completely breech. She said not to worry because it has lots of time to turn but I can't help but wonder. So..

Were any of you breech around 26 weeks and had the baby turn in your third trimester? Did you or your doctor do anything specific to encourage the baby to turn?

Thanks!

  • Oh you have PLENTY of time.  Don't even consider worrying at this point.

DS2 was breech until around 35 weeks.  We were going to try an external version if he didn't turn by the 36 week appt.  At least I think 36 week, maybe it was 37.

  • Thank you both! My first pregnancy was high risk so this was the least of my worries then and I had ultrasounds ever other week. This time I get them every 6 weeks and everytime he's been breech and facing my back (doesn't appear to like any other position!). I just hope he doesn't stay breech!

  • My baby was breeched for most of my second and through third trimester. I am just at 37 weeks now, and baby is head-down. I was told not to worry about positioning till after 36 weeks.

  • DD2 was breech at 36w, head down at 37, breech at 38, and head down again at 39w for delivery. All that turning all on her own, I didn't do anything special except lots of walking I would have done anyway. I definitely wouldn't start worrying about it at only 26w :)

  • One of my TWINS turned from vertex into breech position around 32 weeks ... and then turned back a week or two later!! It was kind of flabbergasting, I have no idea how he found the room. :) (Even more crazy is there was no mistaking when he flipped to breech, but I had no idea when he flipped back down again.)

So yes, it is completely possible, do not worry! :)

  • I wouldnt worry yet.  My doc didnt schedule my csection until my 37th week, and they will do an U/S when i go in to check that she hasnt flipped.  if she does they will induce me that day.

Definitely do your research on version before you agree to it.  Our personal decision was not to try it because of possible complications.  My doctor wont even consider it before 39 weeks because of the possibility of rupturing the placenta or inducing labor.
