Working Moms

Joining your ranks today.

I had my first child in late May. My boss was kind enough to change my position so I could stay at home and work. That has proved challenging. So today my daughter starts daycare. I am doing better than I thought I would. I am excited for her and I am excited to get back to the office. Now my challenge is to figure out our morning routine . Any pointers?

  • Get everything that you can prepared the night before, lunches, clothes, bags....

And like PP said, prep everything the night before as much as you can.

  • Yes, welcome! It's always hardest in the beginning but before you know it, you'll find your groove.

For me, the biggest help was having DH involved, whether getting him out of bed early when DD has had a rough night (so I can sleep an extra hour) or having him take her to daycare when I have an early meeting. They also eat breakfast together every morning, which is both cute and helpful.

    Good luck!

  • Welcome!!
DC has been great for my family.  I love the balance of working and being a mom; even though it's crazy at times.  Best of luck to you!!!
Like a few PP's said, get things as prepared as possible the night before.  I set out clothing for the week for me and DD on Sunday nights or early in the week.  I try to plan meals in advance too.  MOST IMPORTANTLY, DH helps with DD (now two years old; we have a second on the way) in the morning.  He dresses her, gets her her breakfast etc.  This works well because he does not leave for work until well after DD and I leave for DC and work.  Routines are key in the morning.
Also, have back up plans in case your LO gets ill, DC is closed unexpectedly etc.
I'm a teacher. I have a lot of material I can pull together for quick, last minute sub plans.  DH can work from home often too.  Nothing has to be totally set in advance, but just have something to fall back on if necessary.  We also have a back up DC that takes drop ins should DD's DC be closed unexpectedly (eg. DCP is ill; family emergency etc.)

Thanks everyone. I made the drop off and no tears. They did have a slight milk spill at DC but I sent extra
