DH doesn't want to feel baby...anyone else?

When we are at home together and I've consistently felt the baby moving for a few minutes, I'll tell DH so if he wants to feel it he can. Well...he tried one time for literally 5 seconds and hasn't wanted to try again. I know it's his decision. Just kind of makes me sad that he doesn't want to feel her kicking/rolling (whatever she's doing in there). Anyone else's DH/SO the same way?

Re: DH doesn't want to feel baby...anyone else?

  • Not exactly the same, but somewhat similar.  My husband felt DD move once or maybe twice during my last pregnancy, and he thought it was really weird and didn't attempt to feel her again the rest of the pregnancy.  For some reason, he likes feeling this one move.  He is an amazing, very involved dad, so I don't think how much they like to feel movement is related to their outside of the womb abilities.  :)

  • We haven't felt anything from the outside yet but DH isn't a snuggle the belly type of guy. If I ask him to rub my belly he will but that's it. I think once we can feel from the outside he will a few times but not go crazy trying to feel her.

I'm just glad he's not like a husband of a friend of mine and after 20 weeks or so won't even touch her. He's apparently creeped out by pregnant women.

  • My husband tries for like 10 secs then gives up if he doesn't feel anything. I think he will get better when the movement is more pronounced.

  • DH does it but I think it makes him uncomfortable...on a funny note....

We were sitting in the hot tub (more like warm tub) and I was straddle hugging him while talking and Sharkie decided to be very active so DH got to feel kicks on his belly. He made the face I made the first time Sharkie started kicking :)

  • My DH is the opposite, and he won't stop touching my stomach hoping for a kick. Most of the time it's cute, but sometimes it's annoying. Yesterday I had a big lunch and was full. He immediately touched my stomach. Uhm no. I told him she was eating and didn't want to be disturbed lol

  • Eh mine just has a short attention span so he will try for all of 10 seconds then go back to playing on his phone or iPad. He did get lucky once and felt a good strong kick because I forced him to stay still until he felt it. I am at the point that if they are strong enough I can even see them on the outside. I would say hang in there he'll either come around to it or you can just share it with a close friend who would love to feel baby kicks.

  • Mine tries but has workmans hands( they're all thick and calloused and basically baseball gloves). He can't really feel yet so gives up, but he talked to the boy and rubs my belly a little.
  • Mine didn't like feeling her move at first, but now that she is rolling around in there and her movements are much stronger and more visible, he loves feeling her. I wasn't as hurt by his reaction as I thought I would be because, frankly, it's the craziest feeling in the world to feel something moving inside you.

DH "felt" a kick about a week ago, but he didn't get too excited about it because it was pretty subtle. Before that he would put his hand on my stomach to try and feel him when I asked him to, but would only keep it there for 5-10 seconds. Since then he hasn't really tried to feel LO kick again. I'm hoping he gets more in to it as the kicks get more obvious, but if not its his loss!

  • Mine used to get frustrated if he couldn't feel her so he didn't really try. Now that the movements are super obvious he LOVES it. He said he didn't like feeling the disappointment before.

  • My DH was the same way in the beginning and now he's constantly touching my stomach and asking if they're moving.  Saturday morning he was poking my stomach to "get" them to move.  I'm sure he'll come around :)

  • Not my husband but a couple of my sisters wot bc it grosses them out haha. But sometime my husban will only feel for a second and if the baby doesn't move right away he gives up. But when we are watching tv I will just grab his hand and rest it on a spot where the baby is moving and when he feels a kick he gets so excited, it's adorable.

  • I haven't really had the experience of feeling the baby consistently move like that, but when the time comes, I doubt DH will want to feel it. He is unusually squeamish, and could barely pull it together to come to the A/S with me. I doubt he will be coming to any future appointments/ultrasounds with me until baby is ready to be born. The thought of a tiny human growing in my body doesn't freak him out, but actually seeing her/feeling her gives him the creeps. LOL...men...

  • MH felt LO move last week and just lay there with his hand on my belly for AGES. With DS he used to sing and talk to him all the time and after a while whenever DH talked to my belly usually saying "hello, this is your father speaking" DS would kick like crazy in response. It really was quite amazing!
DH hasn't started talking or singing to the LO yet but I kinda hope he does as I think him and DS were already strongly bonded when DS was born because of it. DS actually cried for a bit after birth and stopped straight away when DH said "it's ok baby"!
  • DH loved feeling when DD kicked, this time he's over it. He'll feel once in a while when I put his hand there and will feel the kicks but he's just not as amazed by it as I am. Also DD is the same, she has no interest. My OB asked how DD was doing and I told him how she doesn't care to feel the kicks and he said that kids are like husbands, it's not really "real" to them until they can see/hold the baby.

This was my husband last pregnancy. This time he talks to my belly and keeps trying to feel baby move. Crazy how much things change from baby to baby!
