Getting 2 week old to sleep at night

Hi, my LO will sleep great during the day and has such a hard time at night. What are some ways to get her to stay awake more during the day? I am one tired momma

  • It takes time to work out. You can try some stimulation but honestly they figure it out. It should start turning around soon. Sleep more in the day when your LO sleeps. :)

  • My LO is 5 weeks today and she still hasn't figured out day vs night. I'm hoping it will be soon. I do agree to try and nap during the day with your LO.
  • Natural sunlight.  First thing in the morning we open the blinds and we get LO outside every day, starting as soon as he came home from the hospital.  We also have him sleep in the living room during the day (not where he sleeps at night).  When it gets dark outside we keep the inside fairly dim and quiet, and he sleeps in a different place at night.  Just some stuff to try.  The're basically jet lagged when they're born so it takes a couple weeks for them to adjust to the "time difference."

More noise around your house during the day, even if your LO stays sleeping. Then at night keep talking and playing to a minimum and dark. It took my LO a while and I still feel like she sleeps better during the day but atleast I'm getting one 5 hour stretch at night. Try a white noise machine, that really helped us. Also, being awake during the day doesn't always make them sleep better at night, sometimes that can make your LO overtired. And an overtired baby is the worst! Just keep trying, stick with a pattern, sleep during the day with your LO, and stay positive. You'll figure out what works!
  • Your baby doesn't know the difference between night and day at 2 weeks old. What you are going through, we all go through. It will get better as LO gets older.

Keeping baby awake during the day, isn't going to make him/her sleep at night.

This 100%. Keeping a baby awake when they want to sleep also makes for one fussy, overtired baby.

  • I have no idea if our LO just prefers his crib or he really has figured out the difference between night and day, but our night routine is different than our day routine. At night we put him in pj's and a sleep sack, talk less to him, put him in his crib and we do NOT offer a pacifier when we lay him down in the crib. He normally sleeps consistently around 3-3.5 hours.

During the day, we have him sleep anywhere (in his Boppy Lounger, Mamaroo, bouncy seat, PnP) other than his crib. He sleeps in whatever his clothes are for the day (normally a onesie and pants) and we offer him a pacifier if he seems fussy. Normally he'll sleep anywhere from 2.5-3 hours. If we put him in his car seat and do errands, he'll sleep for 3-4 hours.
