Need carrier recommendation for older / large baby

Hi! I'm relatively new to baby wearing although my DD is 7.5 months. She is big, probably about 22 lbs. I'm looking for recommendations on a good baby carrier for a baby of this size to be worn on front and back. I realize it might get pretty tough to carry her in front soon.

Check out the Kinderpack toddler size and the Tula. Both very comfortable for big kids (and mama/daddy).

No way a 7 month old - even a 22 pounder - can fit in the toddler KP or Tula - they are very generously sized

The standard KP or Tula would be a good option with lots of growing room if you are looking for buckles. If you want something a bit more budget, check out the Action Baby Toddler (which isn't sized as large).

@ncbelle - My DS who is 2 but weighs just 22.5 lbs fits into the toddler KP. It really goes knee to knee, though.

I wasn't thinking so much about age, though, and DS does fit well in the standard KP. I guess my thought was that if she's 22lbs at 7 months, she'd outgrow a standard carrier pretty quickly. Maybe not?

Height makes a BIG difference! And actually it's kinda unusual fora 22 pounder to fit well in the toddler. Neither of my kids fit well at that age. The KP has such a deep seat that it's actually better for it to not go knee to knee than it is to be too big - that causes things to pull back. So unless you have a 7 month old the size of a 3 year old, the toddler would be a no go

Callum didn't fit well in the toddler until 2 and Eleanor until more like 2.5 - she actually is still fine in a standard. It's not knee to knee but in the KP with a toddler that doesn't matter.

I have a pikkolo made by cat bird baby and love love love it. It's similar to an ergo but can also carry babies on the front facing out.

I have a 25-27 lb and 32 inch 10 month old. We just went through this whole thing. I knew I needed a bigger SSC if I wanted to keep using one. We had an Infant KP, but I didn't want to get the standard size since he'll be in it for 6 months and then we'll buy a Toddler. So I went to my local babaywearing club and tried both the toddler KP and Tula. We just got my new Tula in the mail. LO was swimming in the toddler KP. It's so generously sized I think my 3 year old would almost be too small in it. The toddler Tula though doesn't have as big of a body or as wide and deep of a seat as a toddler KP. The Tula also fits my body shape better as well, my KP always dug into the backs of my arms. So, I'd say to get the Tula over the KP.

Thanks everyone! Despite her weight, she is just average height (chunky girl, all cheeks!), so I think we'll hold off on anything toddler sized. I actually just picked up a catbird baby mei tai today off craigs list for $30. Seemed like a steal. So I'll see how that goes. I think what I really need to do is find a local babywearing club to try on some options. thanks again ladies!

We were comfortable in the Toddler Tula by 18 months and 25 pounds.
