Worried

I don't ever post on here. I'm normally just hovering around on the board but I'm past my due date (Nov. 8) and they want to induce Tuesday. I'm already dilated 3cm and 80% effaced. I'm only 17 (as of today, happy birthday to me) and I'm scared out of my mind. Went into the hospital last night because we thought labor had began and I didn't realize how scared I am until then. Can someone help me calm my nerves by telling me what to expect?

Re: Worried

  • Happy birthday! If it helps I'm sure we are all scared especially all us FTM's out there. I know I sure am just as scared, nervous, and excited and I'm 32! I just tell myself people do this every day all over the world so it can't be that bad and no matter what we will all get thru it! Good luck!!

  • I also am 32 and I'm due Tuesday and this is our first. I'm calm now but I think when it's the real deal I might be very scared. I've never been hospitalized for anything and I know it's going to hurt. My plan is to just go with the flow, get pain meds if I want them, and just acknowledge our bodies are engineered to do this.
  • First off, happy birthday :) I had my first baby at 19 and I was scared shitless and didn't have any idea what to expect. I think all FTM's expect to feel this way, so don't let yourself think it's just your age! I didn't have the a normal birth experience because I placed my baby for adoption, but do not worry. You will be fine. When you get there the nurses will likely ask you a series of questions, put you on the monitors and get an iv started. Other than that I have no clue because I have never had an induction. But good luck! I have no idea what to expect after my LO is born so I'm scared, too!
  • 33yo here and a STM.

I still get anxiety thinking about the birth, even though I know as much as I can. I just want to get to the part where baby and I are home & healthy with our family of 4.

  • Happy birthday! I was due Friday as well and I'm still waiting for LO. Is there any particular reason they want to induce Tuesday? For me personally, I wasn't dilated at all so I allowed my doctor to ripen my cervix Thursday but she is letting me go as long as next Monday.

I just had my first c section the other day. It was an emergency one, however if it was just a normal c section I don't think it was too bad. That part of the birth was quick and pain free. They numb you up. You will be strapped flat on a table. That part weirded me out. If you can, have someone in there to hold your hand.
Afterwards they give you pain meds to manage the pain. You will be on bed rest for several days at hospital, but they help you with changing and feedings. Then after a couple of days they have you walk around.

If you worried about the parenting part, that comes in time and you will get there:)

I don't know of this helps at all. I'm not an expert or anything, just someone who went through it not too long ago:)
  • I'm a FTM who will be 38 weeks tomorrow.  I'm 26 and feel excited and scared shitless at the same time.  I'm psyched to become a parent but scared that I'll mess the kid up for life and I'm scared but excited for labor because it means LO will be here.  So like others, no real advice, but I think we all feel this way!
  • I have no advice for you other than "knowledge is power." Read up online or go with a friend to Barnes and Noble and read some books in the aisles. Maybe that'll help you feel more prepared on what to expect. Regardless of age, all us first time mom's are anxious/nervous I'm sure since as a PP said everyone's experience is unique. Good luck to you!

  • I'm 20 and a FTM, I'll be induced this week and im scared as well. Not been able to sleep, but trying to look on the bright side that soon I'll be holding my son. My hubby has been trying to keep me positive. Good luck!
  • I'm a FTM and had my baby in 11/7 ... The week before I deff started freaking out not knowing what to expect. We were made for this, our bodies know what to do! Hoping your labor and delivery experience goes as easy as mine did!
