now what?

we spent this weekend potty training. my son actually took to it pretty well! a few accidents on saturday morning and then only 1 on sunday. would love advice on a few things . . . .

1. he has not pooped in the potty. both days he waited until he had a pull-up on for his nap. i'm not sure if he held it until then or if it just so happened that's when he had to go. how do i make sure he's not holding it until his nap time?

2. now that he's doing pretty well around the house, i'm starting to think about how this works in public. how do moms of boys who still sit handle having them use the potty when you are not at home?

thanks for any help!

Re: now what?

  • Pooping came later for DS. For a long time he would hold it until he could do it in his Pull-Up. I would just encourage him to use the potty but didn't force it. After awhile, he became comfortable with the idea.

As for public toilets, I usually just sit him on the seat with a toilet seat cover or TP if it's available. I'd purchased some of those disposable seat covers to keep in my purse but never really ended up using them. You could also hold him over the seat facing backwards if you don't want to put him on the seat itself (depending on your feelings on public toilets. ;)
