Extremely itchy belly

Hey Ladies, I hope you all have enjoyed your weekend. I am just over 33 weeks and for the past few days my belly is so itchy I can't take it. I have been slathering myself with bio oil and cream but I get ok relief. Has anyone else had a similar experience and can suggest something to help. I am trying my best not to scratch but it's so annoying it's near impossible. Thanks for any help in advance

Re: Extremely itchy belly

  • Try a oatmeal bath? They sell packets you can buy at the store that won't clog your drain. Also drink water and start slathering oil multiple times a day!

  • If it's really that itchy, try cortisone?

Isn't cortisone more for rashes though? Not all over dry skin? I have used it on tiny patches of dry skin but not on a whole area like your tummy. Ask the pharmacist when you are there!

  • My niece had over 20 mosquito bites all over her body last summer and we put cortisone on all the spots. I don't see it being much different from that. It helped her to not scratch.

  • If nothing is helping and you are extremely itchy I would talk to your Dr about it, it can be a sign of something more severe.

  • I was itchy, too. Just lasted a week or so and now comes on occasionally. I kinda just dealt with it... common symptom

  • I use organic coconut oil on my belly every night, and that seems to relieve any itching I have and keep it away for most of the next day! Good luck! I hope you find some relief!
  • My legs are like this, I have to use unscented lotion. Lubriderm works best

  • I've been using Lush - Dream Cream. I love Lush products. And this one is made for itchy skin. My tummy has been all red and itchy too. This definitely helps!!
  • I haven't tried it on my stomach but when my legs get really itchy I use polysporin cooling gel and it is fantastic. But I have only used it once or twice, I don't even know if I should be using it. I will ask my doc at my next appointment.

@amyv83- I was also thinking, have you tried switching soap or just avoided washing your body all together except for the areas that need washing? I switched to dove from olay and have noticed a big difference.

  • I haven't tried that yet but I will look for a more sensitive soap today when I hit up the drug store. Thank you all for your help :)
  • I haven't generally had an itchy belly, but I do have problems when I wear the over-belly pants and jeans, which are starting to be a necessity.  I have tried putting lotion on my belly before I dress. It seems like I always get itchy part way through the day, though, especially if it's warm.  I hope some other posters have suggestions because it's really embarrassing to have an itchy belly when you're in public or at work.
  • Someone said they use Sarna cream when they had a rash - this was on a different post. I have PUPPPS and tried it and it worked for me. Maybe give it a try on your itchy tummy.
  • I also second the oatmeal bath, or even apple cider vinegar. Stop with the bio oil and other lotions- it may have other ingredients that are irritating your skin further. I like Burts Bees Mama Bee vit E oil, it's simple and moisturizes really well to keep the itch down.
