Pregnant after 35

Very glad to see I'm not alone!!

After reading through just a handful of posts on this board, I feel very much like I belong here! I am 36 and have a 16 year old from a previous relationship, a 2 1/2 year old DD with DH (conceived after years of infertility treatments), and am now pregnant with what will hopefully be my 3rd child.

We had almost given up and were seriously researching various types of adoption, and then a surprise BFP right after we decided we wanted to try some more IF treatments. Can't tell you how surprised we are after almost 10 years!!! My husband always said he wanted to experience the "joy" of an unplanned pregnancy and since we didn't think there was ever a chance that this would happen the old fashioned way, I guess he got his wish.

Oh, and my 16 year old's exact words when we told him, "Well I'm not exactly thrilled." Oh the joys of raising a teenage boy.

  • Congrats! So happy for you! Your story sounds sooo much like mine! I have a 14 yr old daughter, a 3 yr old son, and #3 on tje way. Started TTC when my daughter was 4 and after a loss and 6+ years of infertility, we were surprised with my son in 2010. We were trying to figure out whether to close the book and decided to give it until we were 40 and boom! Pregnant w/#3 with no help whatsoever, despite doctor's attempts to talk us back down the fertility route. Oh, and we are 39! I smiled reading your son's response--sounds like my daughter! Lol. Glad to meet you and read your story! ;)
  • I have found that having a teenager and toddler at the same is NOT ideal....everyone assumes instant babysitter. Not so much in my house! Good luck with your pregnancies....I have an u/s this week. Hoping for a good heartbeat. :)

    Congrats and welcome!
My 13 yr old had just finished up his 7th grade "health" class at the end of the school year and it was a few weeks before we told him. He tried to cover his grossed-out-ness but it was a little funny to me, at least. He's more than thrilled now to know he's finally getting a baby brother after all of these little princesses running around :)

I"ll also add that he quickly learned that the little sisters can score some "social points" with the "ladies" after his recent school band concert.. lol
