For BTDT moms who were diagnosed with GD with previous pregnancy/pregnancies... did you delivery vaginally or via c-section. Also, were you induced early or did you go into labor on your own? Please feel free to share any and all information you are comfortable sharing.

I got diagnosed this time around but not with my son. My SIL had it with all 4 of her children and was able to delivery them all vaginally.

ETA: I believe she was induced with her first two, but her second two came on their own.

  • My sister had GD with all 3 of her kids.  She was induced with her first bc she was overdue but ended up needing a c/s... my nephew was 10lbs 2oz.  After that, she just had repeat c/s.  All of her kids were big, but big babies just run in our family so we don't think it really had much to do with the GD.

  • My sister had GD with her son. He was born vaginally and she went into labor on her own about 5 days prior to due date. He was 8lb 12. Very long, difficult labor though and this was her first baby.
Also her GD got majorly out of control the further along she got. I think she was up to at least 2 if not 3 shots of insulin a day by the end of her pregnancy even with eating the recommended diet.

  • I was diagnosed last pregnancy because DD was measuring big. She wound up evening out and being in the 50th percentile by 36 weeks and I went into labor at 36 weeks. She was delivered vaginally with no complications- 6 lbs 12 oz at 36 weeks

  • Thanks for your responses ladies. I found out last week that I failed my 3-hour test by 2 points, and had nightmares last night about needing a c-section. I don't meet with a dietician until 32 weeks... not really sure what sense that makes, but I do have another ultrasound scheduled for the end of this week, so I will find out then how LO is measuring. I am really hoping I can keep the GD under control with diet, and still deliver as planned!

  • @HappyDoc..it's not over till it's over! My doctor was threatening with a Csection thinking DD was big and I'm only 5'1 so she kept saying "some women just can't deliver big babies"...like I said perfect textbook delivery, no problems so just because one growth ultrasound says something doesn't necessarily mean it'll stay that way!

  • I had GD with my first. I had to be on insulin. I went into labor on my own 5 days before my scheduled induction - my induction was scheduled due to the GD.

I ended up with a c-section, but it was unrelated to GD. DD was 6lb12oz

I had GD when I was pregnant with my DS, and have it again this pregnancy.

With DS I was induced at 40w1d (my doctor said any time between 40 and 41 weeks), and delivered vaginally. I had a pitocin only induction, and it took about 12 hours from the time they started the induction to delivery.

ETA: DS was 7 lbs 12 oz at birth.

  • I was diagnose with GD and this is my first pregnancy. I talked with my birthing class instructor about my fears of an overweight baby and having a section. She said I could deliver a 13 pound baby vaginally if I wanted to bc it's not the weight we should consider it's the head circumference. If the baby was 13 pounds it could mean it has fatty legs and a belly which can easily squeeze through the birth canal...it's that head we gotta watch out for lol
  • My OB said she will not schedule a c-section and will not induce based on GD.  Even though a c-section would be RCS with me, she would still let me go into labor on my own (I am hoping for a VBAC) and see what happens.  She told me, a baby can be big for 2 reasons, GD or family history.  You never know.
