How full is LO's overnight diaper?

edited November 2013 in June 2013 Moms
So this is kind of a personal poll. Lately my LO has been sleeping about 8-10 hours overnight without nursing. I've noticed her overnight diapers are barely wet at all in the morning. She maybe peed once all night. That seemed off to me since her diapers used to be soaked in the morning... I called the pedi and the nurse asked me snarkily if she was sttn w/o nursing, and I said yes... She told me it was fine since she is otherwise happy and eating normally, and peeing during the day. I still think this can't be normal. So for curiosity sake, what is your lo's diaper like in the morning? Please comment with the hours of sleep and if they nurse at night too. Thanks!

  • @nursemommy13 I kind of had the same thought about potty training! Lol

  • The one time he STTN, his diaper was dry. I figured since he was eating during the night, there was nothing for him pee out. Usually his diaper is pretty soaked with pee. Every few days there will be poop.
  • Hmm ok thanks @smellychelly25 that is helpful.

Typically after sleeping 8-10 hours her diapers have about 5lbs worth of pee but sometimes it's dry with her on the same eating schedule. If she wakes up to eat the first diaper is usually pretty dry.

  • He sleeps from 730 pm - 6 am without waking/nursing and his diaper ranges from mildly wet to soaked. I chose soaked.

  • We have finished some "sleep training" (I hate that term but you get what I mean) and DD is now STTN peacefully. Hopefully it lasts. She does not have any MOTN feedings and wakes up with a very soaked and heavy diaper.

  • Sometimes full, sometimes not.
  • If you had a very wet/heavy, I would have chosen that, but I just voted for wet since you didn't. I wouldn't say soaked because to me that means it's leaking or about to leak, and it's rarely that bad.

She is sttn, but there is usually so much pee I don't think it could hold anymore. She's pretty routine, and will usually poop within the first hour of being awake.

  • We change at every other feeding at night. So at 10 it is mildly wet, at 2 it is pretty wet, at 5 it is pretty or super wet. The he gets changed from a soaking diaper at around 5:45. At 6:30 he gets changed again and it is usually pretty wet.

  • Usually soaked and most of the time a poopy diaper, too. She sleeps 11-12 hours and doesn't get up to eat.
  • Soaked I feel like it weighs 5 pounds but he eats 3x at night :((

  • Yeah we are on a similar schedule @kames12

  • I'm glad you took this poll because the same thing happened to me last night.  LO slept for 11 hours straight (thank the dear, sweet Lord!!  It's been quite a while since that happened) and when he woke up at 5:30am, his diaper was not wet at all.  I thought it was odd but fed him and put him back down.  MH got up with him at 7:30am and he said LO's diaper was soaked.  Not sure what happened there, but I'm going to assume everything is fine as long as he continues to have enough wet diapers throughout the day.
  • Soaked and eats once or twice in a 10 hour stretch

  • I thought I read something in one of my baby books about this for DS, but I couldn't find it. Maybe I asked the pediatrician...I don't remember. I remember reading/hearing somewhere that it's okay, that if the baby sleeps deeply, sometimes they don't pee in their sleep.

DD is often dry first thing in the morning, but then has a good pee pretty soon after getting up.

  • My baby girl STTN and her diapers are soaked when she wakes up.
  • Totally normal. E wakes up with bone dry diapers when she STTN

  • Usually we line her diaper with a second one (CD) because otherwise she will soak through her cover, jammies, and get the bed wet if we only put her in one diaper. She STTN about 12 hours, no nighttime nursing, and I figure she probably pees twice between bedtime and me getting her out of the crib.
  • I'm actually surprised how dry he is, considering dd was always soaked. He's wet, but barely, like he only went once or something.
  • She's mildly dry when she wakes up after 6-7 hours and then pretty wet after the next 5-6 hour stretch. She usually dream feeds twice during that second feeding though. I always joke that she's more potty trained than my 2.5 year old.

  • I put SS. Sometimes he's soaked. Sometimesbhe has a blowout, and sometimes he is mildly wet. He eats at night occasionally, but for the most part he STTN.

  • lurking from July (I ended up with a June baby) my girl started sleeping 7-8 hours in a row around 1 1/2 months old. at that time she started waking up dry, but she would normally have two very soaked diapers within an hour of waking up. she's now in the four month sleep regression and sleeps terrible, so she's nurses a lot at night. but even now she does not pee most nights, and if she does it's pretty light. she goes a lot during the day, so I guess it's just how her body works.

Lately he's been only getting up once so he's mildly wet. Sometimes he wakes up dry...and when that happens he pees within 10 min and soaks his diaper.
