Shoe organization

DD has a lot of shoes and up until now I have just put them on numerous shelves of the cube storage thing we have in her closet. This worked fine when she just had a few pairs, but now it's just unorganized. What do you do with your LO's shoes? Do they have baby shoe racks or something like that?

Re: Shoe organization

  • Not baby shoes, but for my shoes I use a sweater hanger for the closet and then stick shoes in there.  I put multiple shoes in the same section.

  • That's a good idea. She doesn't have a very big closet but they have those that are just one section wide.

  • I keep the boxes and stack them in their boxes. If they are still in good condition after her and possible future girls I hope to re-sell a couple.

  • We have a canvas bin on the bottom step of the staircase that we keep 2 or so active pairs for both kids. That way, we can just grab them quickly before going out.

The rest, for DS, we keep them in their boxes in his closet. For DD, we have a behind the door organizer thing that has like 4 hanging canvas pockets.

Is it totally sad that DS only has 1 pair of shoes? I just cannot bring myself to buy a bunch of pairs of shoes at 20-30 each when he won't wear them that long. I guess I should get used to it though, cause it will be this way for the next 15 or so years and they'll just get more expensive.
Haha, no, not sad, probably smart.  I never bought shoes for Audrey until she started walking and I think I went a bit over board.  I am sure as she gets into bigger sizes I will slow down the shoe buying, but she is still in the same size so I have not had to buy a whole new set of shoes in the size up.

We only have two pairs for each kid at the moment, so they're easily storable.

Eventually, I think we're going to do the hanging thing on the back of the closet, with our most used shoes downstairs in the shoe basket by the door (a pair or two each).

The only thing keeping me from buying DD all the shoes is that DS is an XW. We're limited with shoes for him...Stride Rite or bust...I cannot pay that much for cute.

One day, when the poor boy's feet thin out some, I will go crazy. Until then, we must be fair - in my head at least.

I would do the hangy thing but her closet has sliding doors. I even have one of those currently not being used. Maybe I can put it on the back of her door.

And you are a very strong woman, I would have a hard time not buying all the cute girl shoes!

  • I have a rack in our laundry room (off the garage/kitchen) that I keep their shoes and backpacks on. I don't keep them up in their room because we usually don't put them on until we are ready to leave and then take them off while we are still downstairs.

I keep the boxes too for when I sell/donate them.

  • I bought a hanging organizer like @jenmbott posted. Target dollar aisle FTW.

Oh what I would give to have a laundry or mud room between the garage and the rest of the house!  This is Washington, it rains A LOT here, why don't home builders think of these things?!

  • His closet has a bunch of shelving so I dedicated one shelf to his shoes. I have only bought one pair in his current size but he has a ton of hand-me-downs shoes necessitating the use of the shelf.
Yea builders are dumb sometimes. CJ's room is the smallest bedroom and biggest closet. #facepalm
    Clearly a man designed that!
