Lap Surgery

It looks like I may be having laparoscopy in the next few months. For those that have had this before, how long were you out of commission? I am a SAHM to our (almost) 4yr old with special needs. She still needs to be picked up/carried quite a bit, though she is very small. Any idea how long I should arrange care for her? Any helpful tips?

TIA!

Re: Lap Surgery

  • I've had 2. The first was while pregnant with DS do it took me awhile to feel normal. The second I had surgery on a Thursday and by Sunday I was OK enough for DS to come home from my parents. My one piece of advice would be to stay on top of pain meds. Good luck!

  • Thank you so much for your help. I'll plan on at least 2 days then.
  • I was scheduled to have one in Oct but it was cancelled. They had told me to plan for 2 days. I hope you have someone who can help with your little one so you can rest a few days. It's so hard when they want to play with you. When I'm on bed rest and my DD is here I don't stay down - so my mom comes and gets her. Not everyone is that lucky - but I hope you can get some rest. The more you rest in the beginning the faster you will heal and be ready for the next step.

    Best Wishes!

  • I want to add DS was really young like 6 months at the time so my effort was minimal. I just don't want you to curse my name because you can't deal with a 4 year old 2 days after.
  • I just had a lap a couple of weeks ago - it was on a Monday and I was back at work on Thursday. I will say that it totally depends on how much they have to remove and just your own personal pain tolerance. Wish you the best!

  • Thank you all. We really have no friends or family that can/want to watch DD, but I will at least plan for someone to be with her for the procedure and for DH to be home and "in charge" for at least 2 days. I appreciate the insight!
