Do you find that certain brands are better for girls or boys? What stores do you find have the best prices? Do you buy in-store or online? Educate us FTMs on the dos and don't and ins and outs of disposable diapers!

We started with pampers then moved to targets up and up brand. I find them to be every bit as good and about half the price. A friend of mine has a little boy and she also loves them, just for reference since I have a girl.

For us it was trial and error. I have three sons and each was different-- what worked for one didn't work for the next. For the youngest we started with Huggies but they leaked so now we use pampers. His older brother only used Huggies.

Total trial and error. DS is a massive pisser. He can pee through a diaper in one pee. Like soak a car seat, puddle in the floor kind. Always has been. We tried every diaper ever and the SAMs club simply right are the only ones that can contain it. Before blowouts were a daily thing too. When he was tiny, we used pampers. Simply right is the only one we can use.

We have had the best luck with Pampers, but I agree that it's mostly about what brand fits your baby the best. Most of the boy moms I know say Huggies work best for boys, so I guess we will try those first next time. We tried them with my daughter, and we had many explosions and leaks.

ETA: I forgot to answer the part about the stores. We order them in bulk from Amazon.

It really is trial and error. I hated target/walmart brands also huggies didn't work for us either. I didn't even like pampers cruisers. We stuck it out with pampers swaddlers, even went to the sensitive ones till the regular swaddlers went up to size 5.

We started with Pampers and really liked them. I eventually tired of the price and switched to Target brand. They've been just as good and are much less expensive. Also, keep and eye out at Target because occasionally they put diapers on clearance. Name brand and store brand.

I think it mostly depends on the shape of the baby, it won't take long to find a brand that works for you! We've liked Huggies Pure and Natural in the beginning and then switch around between Target's Up & Up brand and 7th Generation when we can get them at a good price.

Anyone else remember in the 90's, Huggies (I think) had boy and girl specific diapers with more protection "up front for boys, in the middle for girls". Those must have been a total flop because they didn't last long!!

I think it depends on the baby, boy vs girl as well. My son was a wild pisser, lol we could only use pampers with him. With my daughter all the pee would soak to the back and she would end up wet every time, it did not help that she had massively thick thighs. We used Up&Up diapers with her and they worked wonders.

We used 7th Generation diapers when DS was a newborn and I liked those. I will either use those again or Pampers for the first few months.

Because I was buying all of DS's diapers on diapers.com, I eventually decided to try the diapers.com generic brand and really liked them. Then I discovered that they were exactly the same as Rite Aid diapers (Tugaboos) so now I buy all of his diapers at Rite Aid and save a ton of money. They often have buy-one-get one-half-off sales and I stock up. Because I buy all of his diapers there I racked up a ton of points on their rewards card and now everything in the entire store is always 20% off for me. All of our toiletries, my makeup, his diaper creams, his diapers, everything 20% off. We use their unscented wipes too. I definitely recommend trying a pack of their diapers to see if they work for you.

The only diapers I haven't liked were Luvs and that was only because of the scent. I just really don't like the scent they use on them..

Huggies were the worst! DS got a terrible break out and we had to do soaks on him to get him to heal. It looked like burns.

I never used Pampers because of price and my bffs son had that reaction to them (drymax/burns or something). So huggies, luvs due to a diaper cake (they were ok but super noisy) then Target around size 3/4. My son has sensitive skin but we never had issues with diapers as far as leaking, reactions, fit, etc. I have started to buy diapers now in various sizes and brands but only is I get them at a steal or with coupons (I like the challenge! Guilty pleasure).

We had a girl and tried huggies, pampers and luvs. They were all fine but then we bought dollar general and walgreens brands and they worked just as good or better than the other ones and were half the price!!

I honestly thought luvs and huggies sucked. Luvs were paper thin, stiff and noisy and the huggies would stick to her butt and give her diaper rash. Our favorite would have to be Walgreens brand.

With DD we used Pampers Baby Dry.
A friend gave us Huggies and Kirkland (from Costco). Both leaked. And we're extremely roomy around, but short in length. (This was 12 years ago, so things may have changed)

With DS, I've only used Pampers. Started with Snugglers, now using Baby Dry.
Only leaks we've had were because we couldn't change him so he was in the diaper extra long.

Both my kids are/were tall and skinny.
(DD is over 5 feet tall, and only 65 lbs, so still really thin)

What works for one person, doesn't necessarily work for another.
Height, weight, shape all plays a role. Good luck!

We tried the target brand diapers at first but they don't close as tightly around the waist since the tabs don't stick on top of each other so we had a lot of leaks with my skinny waisted DD so we switched to Pampers. I like to buy them at Target when they have their $20 gift card with the purchase of 2 boxes!

Like everyone else, depends on the baby. My little girl was very plump and had a bubble butt and thighs. Pampers were the only ones that did well. Huggies constantly leaked. Up and up were fine but not good for overnight. I bought them for daycare.

I've pretty much stick with pampers swaddlers or sensitive. Have had no issues so far. Someone gave me a random brand and they are awful. I hear target brand is good too. I use Amazon Mom 90% of the time.

DD is fine with any brand during the day (we've used pampers, huggies, and luvs) but we have to use the special night time diapers for her at night b/c she will wet through any other brand and sometimes wets through the night time ones as well. We buy all of our diapers on Amazon and make sure to have 5 subscriptions to get the subscribe and save discounts. It's so nice to have them delivered do the door and the huge boxes so we aren't constantly running out to get them or running around town finding the best deal. We may spend a few extra dollars a month this way, but it's worth it to not have the extra hassle.
