I posted a little while ago about potentially purchasing a carseat for the grandparents to use in case they need to pick up DS from daycare. My mom went to Buy Buy Baby "just to look" (I don't want them buying anything on their own and this experience explains why), and the salesperson there proceeded to direct them towards combination carseats (i.e., Britax Frontier) and said, you can just use the seatbelt or it also has a harness if you prefer that. I, of course, reacted like "WTF?!?" - and proceeded to explain to my mom that DS needed to be in a 5-point harness - he's only 19 months old and he will be rear facing at least until 2 and probably longer. My mom said maybe she screwed up because she told the salesperson that DS was "going on 2" (um, not quite, but okay) but still, I'm so pissed at the thought Buy Buy Baby would suggest using the seatbelt feature for an "almost 2 year old." I really hope this story got lost in translation between the store and when my mom told me about it.
But, this leads me to a question - has anyone used a 3-in-1 seat (e.g., the Diono Radian, Evenflo Symphony, Graco Smartride)? Are they easy to install? Any other experiences with these types of seats that would be good to know? TIA!
Re: Buy Buy Baby Carseat Fail & 3-in-1 Question
My parents have a Safety 1st 3-in-1 seat, cannot remember which one. It has good safety ratings and is super easy to install. I don't mind them having a 3-in-1 because it is way more cost effective then her having to purchase multiple seats as DS gets older. On the installation piece, if your parents are going to keep the carseat in the car they can always take the car to the fire station and have a fireman/woman install the carseat. That is what my inlaws do.
