Pregnant after IF

Installing infant car seat question

I am in the process of car shopping. Looking at small SUV like Nissan rogue, ford escape etc. Curious, where are you supposed to install infant seat? Behind driver/passenger seat or in the middle? Or is it up to the car manufacturer? Reason I ask, looking at Nissan rogue and it doesn't look like there is room in the middle seat...thanks!

Re: Installing infant car seat question

  • The safest spot is in the middle from what I've been told. Do you have your infant seat? Bring it car shopping with you so you can check it out for yourself. :)

  • I drive a 2005 Escape and my ds's car seat is on the passenger side. We still have enough room for 2 extra people to sit in the back if need be. When #2 is born we'll move ds's seat to the drivers side and LO's seat on passenger side.
My husband drives a Taurus and ds's seat is in the middle. I don't know where we'll put baby 2 in his car yet.
  • I've also read that the middle is the safest. But if the middle is not built to handle a car seat, then the side is also supposed to be fine. It's better to have it properly installed on the side than improperly installed in the middle.

    Happy car shopping!

  • Lurking from SAIF...middle is the safest, followed by behind the driver. Logic behind the driver's side thing is that you are more likely to "protect" the side you are driving in a crash. Definitely bring the seat with you when car shopping if you can. GL!
