Nursery School Panic!

Every day LO & I go on morning walks, it gets us out of the apartment and some fresh air. Today I decided to check out the Montessori school that is literally across the street from us. I almost had a mini meltdown!

First off, I was just going to get a brochure and actually see the inside for once. Then they told me there was an available spot for a tour in 15 minutes, so I said I'd take it! Went got a coffee, then came back for my tour.

Secondly, I was not prepared for a tour! I had basically no questions prepared, I didn't have any make up on, my hair was dirty and just back in a messy ponytail, plus LO wasn't exactly in his finest onesie! We were a mess.

Anyway, the school is brand new only like a year or two old. So it was really nice. I mentioned that I was looking at the 2-3 year old program for when I do decide to go back to work. The tour guide/principal woman informed me I should put LO on their waiting list now for when he's 2!!! FOR WHEN HE'S 2!!!!!

I know there are places not that bad, but good lord nowhere should have that kind of wait list for babies! So now I guess I need to start my research to see what our options are.

The kicker was the woman touring before me and the woman touring after me were pregnant, I felt like I had totally missed the memo!

So that was today's panic.

Re: Nursery School Panic!

  • I wouldn't think so either! It might just be those Montessori programs, cause it's not like I live in NY or LA I shouldn't have to wait list LO years in advance! I'll just have to keep looking and maybe put him on the list anyway. Everything would end up being compared to there anyway simply cause it's literally across the street, you can't get much more convenient.

  • We looked at a daycare/school really close to our house, and it was similar, their wait list was over a year long!  My mom watches her now so we didn't end up needing it, but I thought it was just crazy to have that long of a wait list.  I agree about the convenience, though, you can't beat it!

  • It's crazy that you would have to put your baby on a daycare waitlist before you have even started thinking about job hunting!

It does seem like more Montessori programs than daycare centers in my area have years long waiting lists. Though one of the moms in my new mama group has been on a waiting list for her preferred center for 7 or 8 months now, she found her current center while pregnant but found she didn't like it as much once her son actually started.

  • I need to start actually researching my area, cause if everywhere is like that then I need to get on it!! Thankfully I'm pretty sure I can find somewhere that doesn't have a year long waiting list.
