Strep B Swab

Anyone know when the Strep B swab is? I can't remember from last time and for my OB's sake I should probably at least attempt to shave my legs before that appointment...

Hahaha! Mine was done last time at 34 weeks. I only remember because I switched to a different practice at the last minute (35 weeks) and this was the last test I had done by my previous OB.

I think 36 weeks... I am on the end of already having to get the antibiotics during labor because they found it in a urine sample...

Yeah I think it's 34-36 weeks...they like to do it close to the end.

Do they check your rectum at the same appt? I remember that being at the end of my pregnancy with DS and I dread that appt

Oh yeah I forgot about that. I think they swab that area for the Strep B test itself.

Pretty sure it's 36 weeks. And it's a vaginal and rectal swab...

They don't go in your rectum...I got swabbed twice because of preterm labor fun last time, I'm pretty sure it's just a quick swipe along the outside.

I think it was 36 weeks last time...and the test is quick, I don't really remember feeling anything.

Yeah the fact that I forgot the rectum was included in the swab shows how NBD it was. It's super quick and just around the outside.

36 weeks and it's really NBD. I didn't even notice her doing anything. Honestly, you should worry more about the actual internal. Ouch.

This exactly. I had the internal before the swab, and I barely noticed she was swabbing.

I think it was at 34 weeks last time. It doesn't hurt or anything, it just really bothered me that they were swabbing my rectum. I would prefer an internal exam over that.

If it really bothers you ask if you can do it yourself. That's standard procedure at the office I go to. They give you a hand out with a diagram and off you go to the bathroom with a swab.

Typically its around 36 weeks because I guess its only good for 5 weeks. So they tell me anyways. Though they did mine during my first L&D stint and will treat me as positive from now on.
