I hated the ones from Motherhood. I'm a 38D/DD so most of them didn't fit properly. I like Cake and the bravado sleep/comfort bra. Check out Zulily. They have a lot of the better brands discounted. I also recommend going to a store to be properly fitted if you can find one in your area. You should wait until 2 weeks before your due date so you can get a proper measurement.
I too am a 36DD and I wear a large. These are very comfy; I couldn't stand any wire underneath, there is literally no space between the top of my giant belly and my huge boobs. This is the only bra that doesn't make me feel like I'm being strangled and it stretches enough to allow for growth, but still keeps the ladies nicely contained. You also just slip your boob out to nurse. Although it's a sleep bra, I wear it during the day too.
Edit: only thing is if you wear it during the day, the straps will show a little from under some shirts since they are wider and close to your neck.
Whatever you choose, I would recommend not getting one until your milk comes in. They grow A LOT more after that than during pregnancy, and you'll be glad you waited. I liked the Bravado sport style for in the hospital as it gave room when the milk came in and was good for sleeping. After the milk came in, I appreciated having a fitting and getting some regular bras from a maternity store. Pricey but totally worth it. Not sure what they have in the States, but I'm in Canada and loved Thyme Maternity bras.
Soma just started selling them a month or two ago and the quality is impeccable, compared to many others! I am usually a 36DD and found the 38DD to fit better, worth the extra $$.. Soma.com
Bravado Bliss bras were my favourite with DS. For sleeping, I just got the Motherhood ones.
The bliss is my fave too. I have it in 3 sizes now (currently wearing 34 f/g). I like to sleep in tanks. The target ones were fine for me. Can't wear them out without a bra though.
Re: STM's Nursing Bra Recommendations
I finally found the Medela sleep bra:
