like 4/5 months. I got tired of lugging the infant seat around.
Just a tip for everyone else You can leave the infant seat in the car - you don't HAVE to take it out. That way you can max out the seat before switching to a convertible because everything expires and that way you get the most bang for your buck
I just switched at 9 months. I had left the infant seat in the car because it was too much to carry but she just seems more comfortable in the car seat we have now.
DD1 outgrew it at 6 months (29"). DD2 outgrew the same seat at about 9 months, which was the end of her first winter. I purposely bought an infant seat with a 32" limit so we could make it through DD3's first winter in the infant seat. (Covering her seat with a warm cover is so much easier than taking a winter coat on and off a baby.) She'll be about 13-14 months when we switch.

We switched them at the same time six months and one year old.Dd3 was comfortable and loved her seat. Dd4 is adopted and six months younger. We switched them together. I am wishing we had waited or used the carrier for this trip. We flew from Miami to Canada this morning and it was a pita to instal three convertibles on the plane.
We bought a convertible at 6 months because DS has already outgrown his infant carrier- exceeded the length limit. We probably should've done it sooner, he was pretty cramped. SO much happier now.
agree - you do not need to lug it in and out - leave it in the car. with my first we switched her out at 9 months but that is bc she hated it; new baby will stay in it as long as possible - also to help us save on some money before buying the pricing convertible seat.
I still use my infant seat. That that baby is mobile I just leave it in the car and let her sit in the carts at the store or depending on where we are I use her stroller. I only "lug" out the infant car seat if baby is sleeping. I am hoping to have at least one convertible car seat in one of our cars by the time baby is 1.
Purely for the benefit of being able to bundle him up/unbundle him in the house, I am planning to keep him in his infant seat as long as possible -- until the weather warms up again at minimum. The fact that he is a 13lb almost 8 month old makes that decision easier.

we switched around 4 months. DD was too hot in her infant seat and I was over lugging it around. She was so much more comfortable in her convertible seat. I recommend once the baby can sit up on her own, it's a good time to switch. DD wasn't quite sitting up yet and this made going to restaurants and grocery stores a little tough.
Just switched at 6 months and DS is much happier, he never really liked his infant seat and now he can see out the window and has room to stretch, MUCH happier and definately big enough for it.

After winter I don't want to risk falling while carrying him....at least there is padding in the carrier and he isn't far from the ground if I were to slip and also I think it's easier to bundle them up and get them cozy inside the house than the driveway or parking lot.

Same here. Those things are stinkin heavy! We still use the bucket though, it is our spare. I use it if he goes with someone else or if H has the car that day.
