PW: fruit snacks?

Sorry for all the posts. I have low work motivation.

What age can kids eat those gummy fruit snacks? The sunkist ones aren't quite as gummy like gummy bears, but they are still sticky. I found out my mom has been giving E both the sunkist ones and the Annie's ones. I told her I thought they were too chewy, but she said she is eating them fine.

WDYT?

Re: PW: fruit snacks?

  • We give Grayson fruit snacks. I just started giving them to him about a month ago. At first I split it in half because I thought they were chewy too, but then I realized he could eat a whole one just fine. I say go for it :)

  • I am sure they are fine. I give DS raisins and those are chewy. He won't eat gummy things though. I am trying to get him to eat gummy vitamins and he just won't go for it. He does like freeze dried fruit, so that is another fruit snack to try if you want to avoid gummy ones.

  • I won't give Lila anything with HFC, beeswax or artificial coloring. Read the Sunkist label and decide if that's what you want your baby to eat.

  • My kids eat the Annie's fruit snacks.  I honestly can't remember when I started letting them eat them though ... probably when they started being able chew with actual teeth and not do the gum mashing thing?

I second the freeze dried fruits. Trader joes sells a huge range of them. They have no preservatives or sugar added, and most are unsulfuriried (?sp). M is addicted to the freeze dried mangoes, but I only give them to him once or twice a month.

  • Our pediatric dentist said those are one of the worst things for kids' teeth because they are so sticky. I've avoided them for that reason, so I don't rreally know what age they can handle something that chewy.

  • For the record, I did not purchase these for E nor intend for her to eat them. When I found out she had been, I just wanted to find out if it was safe.
    Thanks for sharing your experiences.

This is why I dont give them to DD.  Her teeth brushing lately is a joke.

  • I give the Annies ones to DS. I think I started after a year. I also like the organic ones they have at Costco.
I will say the Annies ones are not very chewy, there are other brands that are super chewy so I think you just have to try it out. If she is doing fine with it then I say go for it!
