Help!!!

My 8 week old has decided the past 2 days he's only going to sleep when we are holding him... I try holding him until he goes to sleep and then laying him down and he sleeps for a little bit and then wakes up screaming bloody murder!! I mean full on breakdown!! I really don't think he could possibly be spoiled from all the holding up until now could he??? I'm just worried something is going on and that he's uncomfortable! Even when I pick him up he continues to cry until he relaxes and goes to sleep... Any ideas??? I know they say you should let them cry but you can only let them cry for so long before I just break and at only 8 wks I just can't do that!!

  • Sounds like the 8 week wonder week.  He isn't spoiled, he is going through a developmental period and wants the comfort.  Luckily, it will pass.  For the time being, do whatever you need to to get by.  Whenever DS goes through a growth spurt or wonder week, he sleeps in the swing.  It never lasts long but it's long enough for me to get a little sleep.

This. You cannot *spoil* an 8 week old.

  • I promise holding your baby won't turn him into this spoiled person-

  • Holding a newborn will not spoil them! It will help them view the world as a safe place, reducing their experience if stress now and reducing the intensity if of their stress response later in life. (That's poorly worded, but gets the point across, I hope.) Mother-baby attachment is a good thing, beneficial to you both now and down the road (especially for baby).
