for our siblings (the day of our + hpt) we got them together for a "picture" but recorded them with the whole 1,2,3, say J*** is pregnant. loved those videos on youtube and always wanted to do it.
for our parents, we did it on father's day and got them together for a barbecue and gave the dads embroidered bibs with sayings on them that are relevant to things they say. got that on video as well and i'm so glad i did. we then said that its a gift from your "grandchildren" and it took them minute to realize there was more than one on the way.

IVF #1 (MDL) February 2013- BFN.
IVF #2 (antagonist) May 2013, First BFP of my life.
Identical twin miracle BOYS (!!) headed our way- due date is technically 2/4/14 but c section is scheduled for 1/7!
For my parents, we went over to their house and said that they forgot to pick up a package on their door step. We handed it to my mom like no big deal and went on to have a conversation with dad. Mom opened the package and inside was an infant 49er jersey. She picked it up and just started crying. My dad didn't believe us, which I knew he wouldn't lol, until he pulled out the digital pregnancy test also inside the box that said "pregnant". They were freaking out - first grandbaby(ies) and all!
For my grandparents, it was the night before my grandma's surgery and I was dropping off a meditation tape to her. When I handed her the CD I also gave her a card. She is an older Southern lady who loves her cards, lol. She opened it up and on the front it said "We're Expecting!". Inside had all our details, like beta #s, upcoming appts, due date, etc. Her and Pa cried and prayed with us and now she goes around showing everyone the card, lol.
For my sister/her fiance, we just drove over to their house that same night and happened to meet in the driveway. I blurted, "so you guys are going to be an auntie and uncle in June!". They both started crying. My sister has bad anxiety, so she was really, really nervous for us to have IVF (even more than we were!). So as soon as second beta came in we immediately told her.
All the above people knew we were doing IVF, but I fibbed and told them we wouldn't know until a later date if it worked or not. I didn't want them all calling after beta #1! It was nice, since hubby and I got to enjoy the news for ourselves for a bit, and we still got that moment to "surprise" them with the news. Plus by the time we told them, it was after 10+ HPTs and 2+ betas, so we were pretty sure!
We called my parents the day we got our first beta and told them. We saw DH's parents that day and his mom ran up to him anxiously asking if it worked, and he just said yes it looks like it did. Everyone in our families knew about the IVF and knew when our first beta was so we didn't make a big deal of it.
TTC since June, 2011 with anovulatory PCOS, 1 blocked tube, and mild MFI
3rd cycles clomid + Ovidrel = BFN
4th cycles letrozole/Ovidrel + IUI = BFN
IVF #1 = BFP! Twins due 2/5/2014
let me preface this by saying i'm often times socially awkward and not very openly sentimental
i just blurted it out to my mom on halloween. no special gifts or tricks or jokes. she wouldn't understand anyway (super chinese and heavy accent and wouldn't get the jokes). and the rest of my family happened to be there. they already have 5 grandchildren so although they were happy it wasn't "the first".
