Babies: 3 - 6 Months

baby rolling over at night

My 5 month old just started rolling over at night. He does well with rolling over both ways during tummy time, in fact as soon as I put him on his back on the mat, he immediately rolls over. At night he used to exclusively stay on his back when he sleeps but just started rolling. I do not know if this is a crib problem (we have the BabyMod from Walmart). Most often when he rolls over he ends up all the way to the end of the crib sometimes his hand would fall off and I am not sure if he can move it enough so put weight on it or it just dangles. Sometimes, if I do not put him right in the middle of the crib, he would do a 3/4 turn and get stuck so that his legs are up against the side.

I worry about him at night. When this happens (he is stuck on the side) he usually cries until I go pick him up. Will this pass? What is wrong with my crib?

Re: baby rolling over at night

  • Yes, agree. My 4 month old started doing this a little over a month ago. I put him down in the center of the crib on his back and if he's awake, he rolls right over and immediately gets annoyed. He is not yet able to roll back over to his back yet. Most nights when he wakes up crying for me to feed him, I find him with either one of his arms out dangling down or both of his legs hanging out. I hope he builds up more strength soon so he can get himself out of these awkward positions.

  • My baby does the same, but we have the breathable mesh crib bumper thing. That we he never goes through the slats. He actually prefers sleeping on his belly.
