Playgroup?

We go to a developmental playgroup that is comprised of mostly preemies.  My LO is the youngest, at 10 months (8 adjusted).  At least one of the preemies is staying home in the winter because of RSV risk, and she was earlier than my LO but is 18 months.  There is a lot of mouthing of toys in this group, and the teachers say this is developmentally important and that they wash them--but sometimes the babies share.  My LO has been sick twice with mild things (we didn't even take her to the doctor) and seemed to weather them well, but I'm not sure if we should be acting more cautiously.  The pedi did not say we had to stay in.

Re: Playgroup?

  • That's a tough call and a personal decision. Do you speak with the other parents? If they're mostly preemie moms and are taking appropriate cautions (hand washing, not being around sick people, etc) then I would feel more comfortable with it. But personally at that age we would have chosen to stay home.

  • At that age, I wouldn't be comfortable with a playgroup. Even now, at 2.5 years old, I'm debating whether to cancel our toddler gym class for the winter because I don't want her in a playgroup during flu/RSV season. You don't have to keep her all winter in lockdown, but sharing germs with a playgroup of babies would make me really uncomfortable.
