Swaddle poll

Curious to see where everyone is at with swaddling. I saw some recent posts about it on a few boards. All our babies are about to roll over or have done so already!

  • We quit the swaddle cold turkey over a month ago when he first learned how to roll. He was only doing belly to back at that point, so we probably could have let him use it a bit longer but figured it was about time anyway. (He was also rolling to his side while on his back.) He had a rough few days, stirring very easily and waking overnight, which he hadn't been doing while swaddled. After a week, though, he was back to sleeping through the night like normal and now sleeps just as soundly as he did while swaddled.
  • Still swaddling - either full or one arm out - for naps. Unswaddled at night.

  • I slept through swaddle training at the hospital, so we have never swaddled

  • Ugh, we're still swaddling, arms in.  I'd love to not be a slave to it, but he still flails his arms when he's trying to settle.  I'm going to transition him out of it, hopefully by the end of the month.  We're trying to get him used to his crib at the same time.  I figured I'd start with the crib and go from there.

  • We've been out of the swaddle for awhile, and she has slept better without it (minus the wakeful period)

  • I said we never swaddled, but I did try it for about four days during the 4 month wakeful, but it didn't do anything for us do we went back to no swaddle. Hopefully that still counts, though maybe I should have voted other.

  • We transitioned to sleep sacks with no swaddle. DD was swaddled until she was mine months old, no joke. She seriously have up the bottle and paci easier. This time around , we wanted to stop swaddling way sooner, so I'm glad we did!

  • @bridetobe920 My DD was about 6 months before we stopped with her. I'm trying so hard to not let that happen again!

  • We have used the Merlin's sleep suit the last two nights and its going better than expected. He's still waking up 3x per night but that's about his norm the last couple weeks anyways. After getting up 6x the other night I'm not complaining!

  • We are I'm the process of stopping the swaddle and have been for sometime. For the last 3 days I've had 4 naps and just one wake up to eat at night. The second wake up was because he is now flipping sideways and putting his feet through the crib sides. So tonight it's been arms out swaddle and I've been up 3x already and it's just 2 am. :(
  • We alway did the arms out swaddle even in the hospital. O even broke out of his first swaddle when they were bringing him to me after my csection. He's now in the RnP but we are trying to transition him into his crib by the end of thanksgiving break. Hard work because all he wants to do is grab his feet!

  • We did arms out and fairly loose when he was little. He kicked his way out of anything we tried that was tighter. Now we do a sleep sack or just footed pjs depending on temp.

  • My child will go to college swaddled, I'm sure of this.
Mine will be there with you, I've started looking for adult swaddle patterns.
  • She starts out swaddled but usually busts out of it.  I figured I would have another go at swaddle weaning after we have gotten through wakeful, and I *thought* we were through it as she had only gotten up 2x a night since Saturday, until she woke up 5 freakin times between 8 and 2 last night.
  • Dd fought the swaddling from day one. We finally just gave it up since she was always finding her way out of them
  • We only swaddle his arms because he's comfortable that way. He gets mad because he pulls his paci out!

You were so smart! I wish we never swaddled and if I have another one won't do it!

  • Transitioning out with Merlin.  Going well.

  • Ben fights his way out constantly but if we don't do it he will rub his face and ears until he starts to wake up. As soon as we re-swaddle, he settles down again for a while. This is an all night, ongoing battle. Any suggestions?!
  • We had to swaddle he had such a bad startle reflex. Then we did one arm out for about a month but I found him on his tummy facedown against the side of the crib and we stopped. It was rough but we started bedsharing and now I can just put an arm on his flailing arm\leg and he goes back to sleep usually.

  • We fully swaddle because he likes it and sleeps longer with it. I see no reason to worry at this point. My daughter slept swaddled until she was 6 or 7 months old.
