LO has been doing weight checks because he didn't gain any weight from 2 to 4 months. So the Pedi had me start supplementing with formula and he gained 9 ounces that first week. Well I wanted to stick with just breast milk and I added some pump sessions in my day and feed LO that way to make sure he was eating good. Well today was he second weight check and he lost an ounce. I don't know why he isn't gaining weight on just breast milk. I don't know if I should BF and supplement with formula or just switch completing to formula. He switch him to Nutrimagen(SP?) Formula because he was spitting up a lot on the regular formula and ordered some blood work to make sure it's not something else.
Then I went to the store to get somethings to make Lactation cookies and brought the wrong stuff. It's an 30 minute drive back to the store. I couldn't find brewers yeast anywhere so I got regular yeast and I got Flax Seed instead of Flax seed meal.
I need this day to end!! Thanks for reading my went
Have you ever done a weighted feeding? That could give you some kind of idea about how much he is getting when he nurses.
And it's so hard to be stuck in that kind of situation! I hope you can find what works best, be it supplementing or switching or sticking to breastfeeding.
(Hugs) Sorry you're having so much trouble. You can order brewer's yeast on Amazon, its better priced there anyway. Flaxseed can be run through a blender or food processor to make flaxseed meal, I actually do that to make oat flour from oats. Has LO been ill at all to account for weight loss? In the meantime, if you have oats- mix oats with yogurt or greek yogurt and flaxseed meal, plus fruit of your choice, stick in the fridge overnight, and eat in the AM. That's been helping my supply. I hope you see some improvement!
Our lil' diva: late like her Momma: 40 weeks 5 days!

Could I do Oats and Flaxseed or do I needs the other stuff too?
No I don't have a scale to do that and I don't have the extra funds to rent one.
There are some lactation consultants that do clinic days that I think you can walk in, do a weighted feeding and get some input from them, and it costs less. Also, there are often breastfeeding support groups - I went to one this summer - that have a scale there. You weigh at the beginning, nurse while everyone is talking, then weigh at the end and it's free. I'd recommend looking into something like that, if it would give you some kind of peace of mind about how much he takes in.
I've been thinking of you lately since we were having our own weight gain problems. I'm sorry to hear things still aren't going well. I've been thinking a lot about what I might want to do. On the one hand I want to just throw in the towel because DD has started whinig and popping on and off while nursing. But I know that I would regret it. I'm going to keep nursing as much as I can and start to supplement if I need. Someone on here once said don't give up on your worst day. It will never be to late to stop nursing, but it can be too early. I really hope things work out out for you, please keep us updated.
Ya'll have been great. Just going to take it day by day right now. I'm going to start pumping again and supplementing with formula when needed. I need him to gain weight because of right now he is at failure to thrive and it has me down right now. Going to get the results of his blood work tomorrow and hopefully it will give us some answers.

araziza - Aww, think you for thinking of LO! I really don't want to stop even if I have to start giving more Formula then Breastmilk. I'm going to do everything I can before I give up BF. I hope your LO starts gaining weight too! LO has been super fussy the last few days too so hopefully the new formula will do better on his stomach.
