RIP Mexican Coke and Sriracha sauce

If you love either of these, I suggest stocking up.

They are shutting down the Sriracha factory due to complaints (and a lawsuit) by neighbors of burning eyes from fumes.

Mexican Coke is changing the formula from pure cane sugar, to corn syrup, so basically what makes it taste so much better than USA Coke is no longer.

Wah-wah. This post brought to you by Debbie Downer.

  • I grew up on Sriracha. I put it on everything! I don't know what I'm going to put in my pho.

  • I didn't think the Sriracha thing was settled in court yet? And I also thought I read that the company is working to improve their ventilation system anyway so even if they do close it won't be for long.

... And don't go to Trader Joes to purchase their new version of Sriracha thinking it will be at all similar.  It's thin, it tastes bad, and it has to be refrigerated.

    I love mexican coke.

Me too. I don't drink soda regularly but when I get Mexican food I like getting a bottle. I got a case at Costco for my Halloween party because its just prettier to serve soda in bottles, and its more of a treat.
  • That sucks for the Hot sauce :( I use it the most with my Pho. No bueno

You are right. Sorry for spreading misinformation. I read about Mexican Coke today, and I just included the old information about the Sriracha in the post because I thought it had a similar fate. I need to keep more abreast on my consumer foods news.

Hey no worries, but girl, you made me panic! :) I just scarfed homemade Mac and cheese doused in Sriracha. :)

  • My DH is going to die when I tell him this!
  • I just about flipped when I read this. Mexi Coke is my go-to soda. It makes everything better.

Looks like we're all good, though:

We have some of the trader joes stuff and I don't mind it but I am in no way a sriracha connesieur. I mostly use it in marinades. I also did not know I was supposed to refrigerate it....oops!

Ah good news!!! Sorry for causing freak outs (in my defense the news outlets early reporting did it to me) and misinformation. My thread is now utterly stupid and I feel like Jenny McCarthy.

At least we got confirmation here that the world isn't turning into a sad place! I had only heard of the likelihood of no more Mexicoke.

  • "I feel like Jenny McCarthy." Ha. That is one of the funnier things I've heard lately.

And don't sweat it, lady. The news moves so quickly these days THEY can't even keep up with it. Sometimes I miss the no-24-hour-news-channels/internet news/nightly-news-report-only of my childhood. Sigh.

Cheers a Mexi Coke to you!
