Miscarriage/Pregnancy Loss

Passing pregnancy and question about pain

Hello ladies,
Sorry that my first post is a question. I have been lurking since I started 'passing my pregnancy' as my OB put it. I did a quick search on google but didn't find a satisfactory answer.

I went in on Monday to my OB (at ~5w3d) after I had heavy bleeding and intense cramping.
They did an ultrasound (transvaginal... what fun) and found what was probably the empty gestational sac measuring at ~5 weeks. I was advised that if I felt pain on one side I needed to go the hospital as it could be.

Well, this morning I had intense pain very low on my right abdomen (below where one would think the ovaries would be). It was constant for about 10 minutes then subsided and is now completely gone.

Can I ignore this and stay home and have a glass of wine?

Thanks ladies.

Re: Passing pregnancy and question about pain

  • hi,

I miscarried at 7 weeks and had the exact symptoms.

I woke up with spotting that got heavier throughout the day then I had a stabbing pain for 10 minutes.  My husband called my Dr during this and wondered if he should take me to ER.   My Dr said....if the pain is persistent and comes back after 10 mins, then call them again.

The pain didnt return and the bleeding stopped an hour or so later.  I went to see my dr in the afternoon and she said the worst (in term of pain) is already over and what remained will be in a day or two I will have a period like bleeding with some clots.  That's what happened to me.

When my Dr did transvag that afternoon, my uterus was already empty.  the pregnancy tissue already left my uterus but not yet came out vaginally.   so sorry that you have to go through this.  I hope that's what happen to you and the worst (in term of physical pain) is already over.

  • In case this was keeping anyone up, the pain never came back but I told myself if it did I would call the doc. So far the bleeding is subsiding and I will be going in again to make sure my levels are going down.

    Thanks
