Need some good stories...

Just found out I need to be induced due to kidney issues I have been having.  The induction will take place Tuesday at midnight.  I am very nervous as I will be exactly 39 weeks.  I am scared because I have only read horror stories about induction that early but know it is medically necessary at this time.  Even after asking my doctor a lot of questions I feel totally unprepared for Tuesday.  Any positive stories about induction at 39 weeks?

I was induced with DD at 39 w 1 day.  She was IUGR and I had high BP.  I was not dilated at all.  We got there at 5ish am, they started the pitocin at 6 am, broke my water manually and DD was born at 2:38 pm with only 2 pushes (less than a minute of pushing). She was 6lb 6 oz.

I was sort of induced with DS this past Sunday. I was 39 w 3 days.  I was scheduled to be induced, but ended up waking up in labor on Sunday morning at around 2 am.  We got to L&D and I was 3 cm and contracting regularly, so they didn't start the pitocin until 8 am.  Once they started the pitocin I progressed quick, but it took over 2 hours to place my epi (because I have a bad spine - not due to the induction) and as soon as they placed my EPI and broke my water I was ready to push.  After less than 10 minutes of pushing (about 6 good pushes) DS was born.  He was 8lb and 12 oz.  I was in labor for a total of 17 hours this time, but not all of it was "induced" labor.  Once the induction process actually started it went quick.

So, I have had two successful inductions :)  Hopefully this will give you some hope- it can be done :)

  • I was induced at 38w5d, induced at 3:30p, checked at 9:00p w/ no progress, so they broke my water. Things got intense quick, labored for an hour w/o meds, got epi and was pain free for the next 4 hours when I was ready to push. Pushed for 20 mins. It was a good experience, when I got induced I was prepared for a  long 24+ process. Stay calm, work with your dr., and do whatever makes you comfortable, you'll be just fine.
  • I had 3 non-medically necessary inductions.  All started around 8 in the morning and I was holding a baby by 12:30 (39w0d), 3:15 (37w6d) and 5pm (39w0d).  Everything went smoothly and fairly quickly.  With each I started labor between 2-3 cm dilated.

  • All 4 of my babies were induced. The second one at 38 weeks because of a kidney issue with him. They were all different but not too bad. My third was the longest at 24 hours because I had made no progress before I went in. It's not that bad. Good luck!
