Flu and TDap Vaccines for Family?

DD is almost 14 months old. She had her flu shot and has had all of her regular vaccinations. Our pede recommended everyone in frequent, close contact get a flu shot and have an up-to-date TDap vaccine. We have asked family to get both, and most have agreed and understand why. Other family is refusing. I have tried to look up online and am not having much luck...how harmful could it be to DD if they do not have the shots since she has had her DTap and her flu vaccines? Would you allow them to visit?

  • It is my understanding that if your LO 14 months, and up to date on the flu shot and DTap vaccine, she is protected.

I would personally allow family who hasn't had their flu shots and DTap to visit.  If LO was a newborn, that would be one thing.  But a 14 month old should be protected.

  • Thanks everyone!
  • TDAP would be questionable to me. Honestly on the flu vaccine though it doesn't matter. Even if EVERYONE she comes into contact with has had the vaccine doesn't mean she won't get it from a shopping cart and even if she's had the vaccine doesn't mean she's protected from all the strains circulating this year.
