ERF seat suggestions: tall baby, small budget & compact car.

DS has been consistently over the 90th percentile for height. As of now, at six months old, he is nearing the height limits of his Evenflo Embrace 35 bucket seat (76 cm).

I have a very compact car. It's tiny and old. No latch system, just good old seat belts. I need a convertible seat that will fit my car and my son for at least the next 18 months.

Budget wise, we need to buy two seats, and we are willing to go up to $200.00 each... I've already compared seats and have found that some inexpensive ones have the same limits for ERF as some more expensive ones. The main difference is the size of the seats.

This is why I would like your suggestions and experience with the convertible seats under $200.00 that you have found to fit your small cars. I will be trying them in my own soapbox of a vehicule but a little heads-up is always nice!

Thank you! :)

I would look at the Graco Size4Me/Headwise/MySize (all the same seat, just different name depending on which retailer sells it).  It installs very compactly and has the highest shell on the market (aside from the $400ish Foonf) so it will last your child rear facing for quite awhile.  It was a super easy install and easy to use.  They run around $150-180 depending on the model (Headwise at Target is usually a bit more expensive).

Check out the Facebook group Car Seats for the Littles...it is run by many certified techs and they can answer any question you have about seats or installs.

  • Thank you for the answers! Initially we were looking at the Foonf but then decided that having a dedicated seat for each car was a better option for us at the moment. I really liked it though.

The Graco My Size is on my list of seats to try and I will be checking out the Radian r100 too if it's available in Canada. I'm glad to see that I wasn't too far off!

Hmm... I wanted dedicated seats to avoid the risk of an unsafe re-install, but seeing as all the great seats I was looking at aren't available, and I technically could still buy them and use them but they're not approved here...

I think we'll go with our instinct and buy the Foonf. Unless I find a seat that meets the Gracos' features. Thanks again ladies! :)

The Foonf is easy to install, however if you will be switching it between cars a lot you may want to get two (if that is in your budget). It's very heavy and awquard to move between cars.

If you need to get two I would look at the Safety 1st Guide 65.  Though I don't know anything about Canada so I don't know if they're available there.
    Better late than never!

This is what we did. We're happy, he's happy, everyone's safe!

ALSO, please compare the Peg Perego Primo Viaggio Convertible (5-65 in Can, 5-70 in USA) to the Foonf. I did, and we will eventually bite the bullet and get the PV.

I was also going to suggest the Peg.  It's 1/2 an inch shorter than the Radian but it's still a nice seat.

My son is in the 98% and 20 months.  This is compact and works great.
