OT-Nursing covers. How much $?

I used to sew girls custom sundresses and sell them on ebay. I'm thinking about opening my shop again and adding baby items like bibs, burp cloths, nursing covers, etc.

I'm trying to decide if I should do nursing covers because I'm not sure they will sell for enough to be worth my time.

How much would you pay for a handmade nursing cover. They would be made out of quality fabric from Joanns.

TIA! :)

  • 20-25$? I mean people go out and buy those fancy ones from BRU for 40 freaking dollars. I'm sure some handmade ones with cool fabrics would sell well. You might also take a looksie on Etsy to see what things sell for as well.

I figure if people buy those Chinese ones where you only pay shipping, which are pretty crappy IMO, I couldn't go wrong with selling them for $15 or so, but it takes me about two hours to cut and sew, and that's not worth a few dollars of profit.

I'm going to check out Etsy and eBay. Thanks!

  • I wouldn't know about that. Most moms I know don't use a cover at all, but my group of mommies are really crunchy and hold burse ins and crap. Sooooooo, yeah. I bought a nice nursing cover and spent around 40$, but ended up not EBFing and gave it to SIL. She now uses it a ton. Which is nice.

  • If it had the nice features (pockets, that piece of plastic at the top that helps it stand up so you can peak at baby, terry at the bottom inside corners for weight and wiping) I think you could charge $25-$30.

  • Make it unique and you can charge whatever your time is worth to you.  People will buy it if they can't get anything else like it.
  • Do people use the pockets? I would just set the pads somewhere and never used them.

  • I don't personally know. I never was able to BF DS so I only used my cover a few times. I was so frustrated that I stopped using the cover and basically would yank my boobs out for anyone I thought could help me get the kid to latch. But in an ideal world, the pockets would have been a nice place to stash a pacifier or my prozac or something. ;)

  • Haha. Logan just plays with it and pulls it around so I'm constantly adjusting. He eats better uncovered, too. If we are out, I will just nurse him in the car. If people see my boobs and are offended, they shouldn't snoop in my car! ;)

  • I think $20-$25 is reasonable. My grandma made me a nursing cover with pleats across the top so it looked a little cuter than just a plan straight cut. She used really ugly fabric though so I never used it haha. Making a new one is on my "to sew before baby" get here list ;)

  • If you could make it so my kids didn't expose my boobs by pulling on it, I would pay $50 for it!
