If you had a BPP

Is it just like any other ultrasound? Is it really quick or more lengthy like the anatomy scan?

    I think it depends on if LO decides to cooperate. I had one that was pretty quick (about 10 minutes) but that's because baby happened to be practicing breathing right as we started the ultrasound. The way the tech made it sound is that sometimes it takes them a while to see that.

    Did the tech say what else they look for. I have my first one next week and see the dr today so I will get more info I am sure but just cirious

    They definitely look for movement, breathing and measure the amniotic fluid. She took a lot of measurements as well but I also needed a growth scan as well so not sure if that's a normal part of the BPP.

    I've had a couple - they look for movement, fluid levels, breathing activity and heart rate. Maybe some other things. Growth is not typically a part of it. They can only check growth every 3 weeks, 2 weeks with twins.

    I have a weekly BPP. If the baby cooperates and is awake it's very quick. They are checking for movement and breathing. If the baby is awake then it is like 10 minutes. I have had one that lasted close to an hour because the baby decided it was nap time.

    So they are saying I will have a NST and a BPP. Is that normal? Seems kind of overkill?

    Do you have any risk factors, hypertension, GD, current medical problems? I will have both twice weekly starting next week.

    At my Dr unless I "fail" the BPP I don't need an NST too. I have been getting them weekly since 32 weeks due to GD.

    Nope just advanced maternal age (37). I would have them on the same day, unless I misunderstood the nurse on the phone yesterday.

    Bio physical profile. They just want to make sure baby is doing well inside. For me they want to make sure my old age isn't causing any issues with babies health ; p

    I had one yesterday (I go every other week) and my lil guy was napping so they didn't see him practice breathing the required number of times and so I had to do a NST for the minimum of 20 mins, which turned out fine. I think my total appt time was an hour and everything turned out fine.

    I get this done twice a week for pre-eclampsia. It can take between 5-20 mins. They look for baby's heart rate, fluid levels, tone, movement, and breathing. Since babies only practice breath about every 30 minutes or so, it can take a while to get that measurement sometimes. Usually they try to move your belly around a little with the probe to stimulate the baby and if that doesn't work, depending I. How patient the dr is.. They either wait until baby moves and breathes or they use a little device that vibrates and that gets baby moving right away.

    This! Except I just do them once a week, and my other weekly appt is an NST. My shortest BPP was 10 minutes, my longest 30.

    Due to low fluid levels at my growth ultrasound, I have had 3 BPPs. It is a 30 minute test. My OB told me that if they don't see what they are looking for in 30 minutes, the baby doesn't get a passing grade. Like PP have said, they measure fluid, check the umbilical artery, practice breathing (baby needs 30 straight seconds to pass), movement (baby needs two big body movements) and tone (baby needs to kick forward and back, punch and bring the arm back, etc).

    My first one took almost the entire 30 minutes. The second two were done in less than 10. Hope that helps!

    What happens if you fail both the BBP, and the NST scan before 37 weeks? Anyone have any experience with that?

    Well, I'm being induced early (39w) because of the low fluid. She also failed an NST. When she failed the NST in the docs office, I was sent to LnD where they did another NST. She passed that one. I would assume its a judgement call from your doctor if you would be induced right away.
