  • Everytime I've been to portland I always want to go. The line is about 2 hours long so I end up saying never mind. I still have never had a doughnut from there!
  • Loading the player...
  • OMG- by the time the segment was over last night I was ready to find a flight lol. I could almost smell them!

  • If it makes you feel better, I'm from Oregon and lived in Portland for 4 years and I find Voodoo donuts overrated! Haha.  They were fun and definitely good, but nothing you can't find in any other big city.
  • They opened a new location with much shorter lines!!! Bacon maple bar...yummy!!!

They also (between 3:00-4:00am) sell their "old" doughnuts for $4/dozen!!! It was great getting off a cocktailing shift and picking up doughnuts for the roommates! (When I was 22!)

My DH and I actually thought about getting married there, but decided a backyard event was more our style.
  • We have one in our town of Eugene (south of Portland about 2 hours) and I've never had to wait in line very long. DH will buy the day-old doughnuts for work every now and then, and we occasionally take our 7yo for a treat when she's had a great report card, etc. We always take visitors there for the fun experience! I even have a "the magic is in the hole" tshirt cause it's funny and a tad inappropriate. Just like the doughnut boxes to use say "good things come in pink boxes"!!! Maple bacon bars are to die for, but surprisingly this pregnancy I've been craving jelly beans more than anything! DH bought me a HUGE container of them from Costco last week..hehe!
  • I loved Voodoo Doughnuts when I lived in Oregon...you have to get their cream-filled penis doughnut.

They are not that good. You aren't really missing out. They are a total gimmick and way over hyped. Plus most of the employees are assholes. I wouldn't wait in line for them.

This is how I feel about In N Out in Southern California.  When I used to travel here, I would make a point to get food from there, but I have worked .5 miles from one for the past 5 years since I moved to San Diego, and have been there once.

I have had Voodoo donuts on a trip to Portland, and they were good, but most deep fried sugary dough is good :)

I live in Ptown and I just can't bring myself to wait in the line. I've had them a couple times, and they are pretty good, but they are still just donuts. It's funny because all the grocery stores around here try to put cptn crunch and other cereal on their donuts like voodoo. :D

  • Oh and a ton of people (other shops/stores) put bacon on their maple bars now.. So I forgot that was a voodoo thing.
They do have vegan donuts, which is awesome. :)

  • mmmm....doughnuts!!!
  • My DH is going to Portland for work in a couple weeks.
I'll let you know how the "can you bring doughnuts home for the bumpies?" Discussion goes! ;)

  • We went up to Eugene for the Ducks v Cal game last month and stopped into Voodoo in Portland. Since our flight got in super late, there was no line at Voodoo 2. I thought they were pretty tasty (but then again, I'm not a donut connoisseur). I thought the staff was really friendly and nice and they even gave us free milks!
  • all i know is when i traveled to Eugene for work, i had a Maple Bacon donut, it was awesome.  i wish i had one now.

I couldn't agree with you more! Donuts tasted like Safeway donuts and the staff were awful. I own a real gourmet donut place. If you're ever in San Francisco PM me and I'll hook my fellow bumpies up a with a free donut and coffee (we have decaf!).

  • Arms crossed, convinced my donut place is better.

It probably is. Your flavors that one time sounded amazeballs.

  • I like voodoo! I really like the grape ape! I live in Seattle so sometimes stop there when we go to Portland depending on the line.

  • I really wanted to try them, but we went to Portland on a weekend in the summer, so of course the line at the downtown location stretched all the way around the block! We decided not to wait that long. We almost went to the other location just outside of downtown, but be ran out of time before we needed to get back home. We love living outside of Seattle so we can just plan on going back again the next time we need a little weekend getaway :).

That's what Seattle is for us, too. A little vacation.
The last weekend before I knew I was pregnant we went to Seattle. I had Mac and Cheese from that place on Pike's. I'm sure to locals it's overrated but I liked it. That cheese tub you can see thru the window psyches me out. :)

  • Aren't you in the ATL area?  I've never been here, but it's supposed to be good:

Not sure what part of ATL you are in (if you are), but hey, it's closer than Portland, right?
  • I'm so glad everyone says these aren't any good otherwise my heart would be broken right now.  I've been craving donuts!

...and holy cow, a 3 pound cinnamon roll?!?  That's some crazy sugar overload.
