NWMR: Weight Watchers

I still have baby weight to lose (plus some non-baby weight) and a friend of mine asked me to join WW with her.  I did it about 7 years ago and didn't really like it.  I never wanted to go to the meetings and found it hard to track my points on meals that I cooked at home.  I do like the idea of losing weight with a friend though, because I think it will keep me a lot more accountable.  Anyone here do WW?  Do you like it?

Re: NWMR: Weight Watchers

  • I've been on it for a few months and have lost weight, but I am just not really a tracker so I am going to cancel.  I can't stand logging everything every day.  I'd rather just do a week or so of calorie counting now and again and not do it every day, and if I'm not counting points there's not a whole lot of point to paying for WW.  But I don't mean to sound discouraging, because I do think it can help, especially if you sign up with a friend.

  • i did it for years and lost weight with it and also maintained the weight loss for the most part.  Now with 3 kids and working, tracking points became too much and I was not getting my $ out of it so I cancelled.  I am trying an app that others recommended on this board - my fitness pal.  so far it has been pretty easy to use - now just to train me to add the food items on a more regular basis.

  • I've had a lot of success losing weight with WW in the past. Their e-tools online are easy to use and make the tracking a lot easier in my opinion. If you have a smart phone you can just download the app and track there.

As for tracking points for cooking at home, the e-tools online have a recipe builder where you plug in all the ingredients in the recipe, put in how many servings it makes, and then it tells you how many points is in one serving of that recipe. It takes time to enter your recipes at first, but then you can save them and they're there when you make that meal again.

WW, like any weight loss plan, works if you follow it. I would just decide whether or not you're really ready and committed to it. If you are, then it's worth the money and time. If not, do something else that takes less time or doesn't require money. Good luck with whatever you decide!
  • I liked weight watchers. I have a history of eating disorder. To lose weight it's important to track what's going in your body. And anytime I tracked on my own I relapsed and got sick skinny. With weight watchers I wasn't watching calories so it helped. Plus they had a list of foods and if you only ate off that list you didn't have to track. Over all I liked it. I lost 20 lbs on WW and another 60 on my own. I just used WW as a kick start.
  • My mother did it and lost 30 pounds, I did it and lost twenty. I got to the point where I knew the points and it was easy. I had the app for my iphone and it was great.
  • I've had success before with it, and I'm joining again tonight.  Everything is online now, so you can just use your phone.  it's way easier than it used to be.
